Torn Card Trick Help

Postby donkeylord » Jul 9th, '07, 07:18

Hey everyone I have a question about the trick Torn, by Danial Garcias. How do you guys make it look more fluent? When I do it the trick looks stiff and choppy. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Practice and mirror work works wonders. You said you're a begginer. It's definitely an intermediate level trick regarding fluidity and cleanness. At a couple weeks into magic, you should be buying Mark Wilson's book on magic. Nicholas Einhorn's book is excellent for beginners as well. Don't try to conduct a symphony before learning how to read music. Start at square one.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

Look up the thread on Torn - it may be in the reviews section. As stated, it's not a beginners trick as it requires some slick handling and loads of practice. You'll see that even some of the more expereinced cardies have taken their time with this one

it's a lovely effect and well worth putting the effort into it.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

I'll look those books up thanks. (I know its a harder level trick but it is just so good looking, I couldn't resist trying it)

I think an intermediate level trick is okay for someone who is a beginner, as long as they understand that the trick is diffucult and it will take them a lot of practise time to get it to a respectable level. I mean doing this shows enthusiam and I think I would have classed myself as a complete beginner when I bought this trick and it gave me something to aim for - if you get what I mean!

I would say take your time and don't get annoyed that it won't come instantly. This trick will be something you can be proud of this time next year!

The Mark Wilson Torn and Restored is a good routine which will come off quite well with some practice. It is very straight forward and requires as much cheek as skill

Just as a matter of interest why do you specify new cards? I tend to use old decks - probably because I am too mean to damage new ones.

Am I missing a trick here (pun intended)

All of these tips have been noted.( I bought mark Wilson's book and have basically learned his version of torn.) I thought it would be cool for a routine to do the mark Wilson version first then do Garcia's. I could use a line like. "Wan't to see that again? Well lets make this a little harder then."

I dont like the trick because the last restoration is just *******. You can stuff it up even with practise.
