You are wrong.

The DL does not requre any missdirection or cover if done correctly. I point to the cards and have them look as I turn over 1, 2 or 3 cards under their nose. If you have to conceal a DL you ain't got it right.

What part of what I said was wrong.. I said that patter has inbuilt misdirection.

And no.. I dont need to have specs look away to execute a d/l or t/l.. what I am saying is for someone who is not confident with it, then as with any sleight, misdirection is key. Constant patter naturally misdirects your audience mentally or otherwise..

Dont just lay down comments without justification.

I am of the opinion that if you are "not confident" with a sleight, then you simply need to practice it better. A sleight should be performed until it can be (literally) done in your sleep. However, if, say stage fright or nerves are the contributing factor, then misdirection can help. Stage fright does deplete with time, so this should be a short term arrangement. d/l and t/l are basic sleights that should be mastered. Recently I have been having trouble with these lifts, so i did not perform a trick that required these lifts in public. I practiced a lot and am now gaining confidence with these lifts again.

Misdirection is ever present in every performance in you patter. I am not saying that misdirection should not be used, just saying that these sleights can be done convincingly right under the spec's nose.

I would almost argue that Michael was right. Now I didn't take it as a super quick turnover that would arouse suspicion, but moreso a fluid turnover 'quick enough' that you don't have a chance to see the thickness which is indeed how I do it. There are some tricks, ie Jumping Gemini, where you need a t/l with heat on the deck, and so misdirection isn't fully available. In this case, a quick(ish) but smooth turnover is the best.
