Monster Bertha

Postby Johnny Wizz » Jul 19th, '07, 08:40

I know that this has been the subject of dozens of previous threads but I have a specific request for help.

I have recently purchased the Monster Bertha set from NUMS. It is one of those things that does exactly what it says on the tin, there are no exagerations, no misleading statements. This is one powerful piece of kit.

Now, having read all of the warnings I still handled mine a little carelessly and allowed two of the elements to become attached to each other. The bruising on my finger should go down in about a week.

My query is, does anyone have a smart tip for disassembling this beast once it has been assembled? I finally managed it with my Swiss Army penknife at no greater cost than a minor flesh wound.

If there is an answer which would amount to disclosure a PM would be much appreciated.

Here's a good tip, which I am adding to the packaging:

Get a roll of DECENT QUALITY duct tape, and encase the Berthas in it, leaving a 'flap' at one end (I can supply pics if required).

This gives you a tab for getting them apart.

Trust me, I have cuts, bruises and scars from these beasties, but over the course of time, I've tamed them.

As I have mentioned before, I have about 100+ of the 'quarter berthas' in stock, and they are kept with 1/4 inch plastic spacers in a Coleman coolbox (to isolate them) in the garage. They really are evil!

The duct tape idea works a treat, and also provides a cushion should they come together too quickly—as they WILL break.

Thanks Siege, I will try the tape. All of your warnings about these beasts are spot on. As I said in my original post, nothing is exagerated! I already have a healthy respect for them from the bruising and cut, but I am looking forward to using them at table on my upcoming holiday. My wife is making a knee strap for me.

Thanks for the more hazardous method ID, I think I will save that for desperate circumstances!
