Good Street Disappearance Trick

Postby JAlexBrown » Jul 19th, '07, 20:07

Does anyone know of any good methods you can buy for good street disappearance tricks? I cannot find any such tricks, books, gimmicks, etc., so any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS - I'm NOT asking anyone to tell me HOW any of these tricks work, just which ones exist, if any.

I guess I should elaborate...

I want a trick where a sheet can be raised up in the street and I can disappear behind it. Since I'm looking for a street trick, trap doors are out of the question. Also, I'm more looking to do this in parks than on crowded streets, so simply running the other way after the sheet's raised is out of the question as well. Any good methods than can be purchased, or even if anyone could maybe drop me a clue as to how this trick could be accomplished (assuming such a trick has no marketed form).

I have worked out a quite primitive method of performing this trick, but I'm not entirely sure it works outside of theory. All I will say is that it is angle-sensitive, as I'd imagine any other method would be. Anyways, if anyone would like to know my method, since it's my own and I feel a right to give it away if I choose, PM me and I will give you my method. I hope this may spark someone's imagination so they can develop a far more sophisticated version someday. I think I forgot to mention, but it's not a disappearance trick, it's an appearance/intro trick. Good first trick in a park or other area where you can force viewing angles.

I'd say your best bet is Andrew Mayne's Bisection Unlimited. Only half your body disappears, but that's a better effect in my opinion.

I'm thinking I'd like to use it more as an opening/closing effect (appearance for opening, disappearance for closing, obviously), so only half-disappearing wouldn't really suit my need for the effect. I've heard of the Bisection effect, and it does look increadible, but it's not really the effect I'm going for. Thank you very much for the suggestion, and I do appreciate you taking the time to help me regarless of rather or not your suggestion was what I needed. You still took the time to offer your suggestion, so thank you.

Try Andrew Mayne's Specter Cabinet. Very cool.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Will you have anyone to help you, or are you performing solo? If you have someone to help, then there are some simple illusions in Mark Wilson's big book which could be used. I have produced people on stage with his methods, which could also work in a street or park setting.
Are you familiar with the old Talking Head illusion? The table from that could be used for an appearance/disappearance, but would be a bit angle sensitive.
