Hello from New Hampshire, USA

Postby danielrhall » Jul 20th, '07, 00:50

Hi All!

I am enjoying a strong interest in magic that I haven't indulged since I was a boy. I'm 51 now, so that was long ago. I don't perform magic other than socially, which is okay because I'm into magic for my own enjoyment.

I have learned and become pretty good at some card sleights but have a lifetime of learning to go. And I still amuse myself with gimmicks and cheap tricks. I enjoy paddle tricks of all kinds and have a fair collection of them. What I really enjoy collecting are packet tricks.

I'm looking forward to reading and hopefully contributing to some intelligent discussions here and learning from you all.

Best regards,

-Dan Hall

In the short time I've been here, I've found that it seems to be you, Bananachek, who is well on his way to not being wanted here. But thanks for taking a moment to acknowledge me.

Hello Daniel,

Welcome to TM. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Folks round these parts are generally friendly enough.

Paddle tricks, eh? Not really something I've investigated tho I have been known to buy the odd packet. What's you favourite packet trick?

Best wishes
Gary

Welcome danielrhall

I love the fact in your opening statement that you say you do this for your own enjoyment... that's exactly how it's supposed to be done!

There's great pleasure in packet tricks, and they're a great (albeit expensive) way of learning sleights, methods and general magic practice.

You should pick up a few books—which are like packet effects on steroids! But then again, you seem pretty content, so if it ain't bust—don't fix it.

Thanks for the welcome Gary. Hmmm, favorite packet trick? I guess I'd have to say Sympathetic Cards by Magic Ronnay. There is so much magic in the effect and it ends clean. I like that!

Hi Seige. Actually, I have quite a number of books. What I need is a magical way to have more time in my life to devote to reading and re-reading them! ;-)

With respect to packet tricks, I have Goldstein's FOCUS and THE CARD MAGIC OF NICK TROST, both containing some great packet effects as well as many others. Also have Paul Hallas' book called SMALL BUT DEADLY, a truly wonderful book with the history and evolution of many packet tricks.

Thanks too for the warm welcome from Rob and Mandrake. This looks like a great place to hang out and have fun.
