Party Popper Wand

Postby Allen Tipton » Jul 21st, '07, 17:05

:) Do any of you guys know WHO invented the (arty Popper Wand, i.e. a hollow wand that shoots party poppers in the air?
The magician concerned first mooted the idea in The Linking Ring then later published a small booklet with the wand & other popper stuff in it. I did have this but it went to a young magician & I cannot find it in the old Magic Books By Post lists.
I have used Tricky Dicky's refined version of the wand for many years; it's still going strong. Tony Parx in Northhumberland also puts a version out.

I need to credit the inventor in one of my articles.

Sadly not, Allen. Did a Google search and couldn't find anything on it.
It sounds good and not something I've come across before. Do you know who sells it? Maybe they list the creator on the site?

Party Popper Wand

Postby Allen Tipton » Jul 21st, '07, 19:55

:) Mine came from Tricky Dicky 44, Shakespeare Rd., Eastleigh, Hants. S050. This was nearly 20 years ago. I think he is still on the net.
The latest version is from Tony Brax Magic( check his web site) page 1. £15. O'd put the wrong surname on my first post bit it is corrected now.
It's basically a hollow tube, decorated as a wand, with an insert in the biottom which holds the popper. The string comes through the bottom and is anchored, to save wafting about, through an elastic band. One pull & bingo. It has NEVDR failed.

Thanks Allen. These sound great and ideal for my kids shows.
Not something I have seen before so I shouldn't imagine the kiddies have either.

Popper Wand

Postby Allen Tipton » Jul 22nd, '07, 20:31

:) Thanks to our still being a Brotherhood. Early this morning I had an e mail from Mr. Runge IBM ( USA) telling me the Popper Wand was by Brian Eden. And I already have brian's address. Old age is creeping in!

Brian had described a version in Repro Magic's Club 71 May 1988. Then he had 2 One Man Parades in The Linking Ring April & May 93 with some popper effects. THEN in TLR Jan 95 there was the Whopper Popper Wand. Hurray I did have these mags but passed them on to a young professional. :D And Mark is sending me a copy.Thank you Mark ( Mr. Runge)
He'd like to know if anyone has come across Mark Wilson's Bingo effect? Can anyone help me trace it guys?

Popper Wand

Postby Allen Tipton » Jul 23rd, '07, 10:23

:) My American friend sent the whole file on the Whopper popper. It's a little more complicated than the Tricky Dicky version I use. TD is still working,. His real name is Richard Barr..see British Ring address book 2006. Address is as i have given. Worth contacting if you fancy one.
2 seconds to set. 2 seconds to re-set.
I don't know the Tony B version.

Thanks to Part Timer i now know all about Magic Bingo.
2 hits in one day. Hurray.

Popper Wand

Postby Allen Tipton » Nov 17th, '07, 14:00

:) In case you are wondering where I've been, well: the last 6 to 7 weeks Orange .co. have xxxx! my web pages up and I just couldn't bring any up on screen. Ta;lk about frustration!!!!!
After 19 phone calls, 10 to 12 lots of entering diagnostics and 3 letters they offered a £50 pound goodwill for the phones calls and 3 free months broadband. I've accepted with good grace the £50 & cancelled my account.l've just joined a new server, small company called Eclipse.

The answer to your question Lord Freddie, it's no.
The Confetti Wand is quite spectacular but much messier than Chinese Snowstorm. You wave it about and the confetti ( strips of coloured paper approx 2 1/2." long) sprays everywhere. A caretaker's nightmare. It's available in some toy shops. I gave 2 away last night at the Guild Sale.
With Popper Wand is simply you pull a string and streamers or confetti if you've load the popper with it, just shoots up. The streamers are less messy as one quick gather up and they're gone.
Tricky Dicky's is easily the best and least foolproof.

I've heard som many bad things about Orange's internet service, Allen.
There is even a whole forum devoted to the problems and bad service people have received!

Thanks for that, I was wondering whether this wand had the same kind of effect, but I can see the difference now. The party popper would, I assume, have a fairly straight trajectory whilst this one is something you would need a broom for!

:D I could imagine you could pass it off at a kids show as a "Noo Noo" and play a nice game at the end where they have to collect up the snowflakes. Saves doing it yourself...

This does not use a party popper. It does fire out one hell of a load of confetti! If you use it at a kids show make sure that your hostess is warned about the clearing up! PM me if you want to know any more about this item
