Group Making

Postby rickyt1016 » Jul 24th, '07, 07:00

Ok, we have ourselves situated here at talkmagic.co.uk, i wanted to purpose a group on myspace dedicated to magic as we are. It could spread out our social reach to beggining magicians. Please leave your comments. Is it a bad idea? good idea?

Hmm... Well, there are already tons of magic groups, BUT it would be very interesting if you started a Talk Magic Myspace Group.

I think you'd have to clear it with a guy called Lawrence Jones. He's the site owner and owner of the TalkMagic name.

The idea has been floated several times before in one form or another. If it's off TM it's not part of TM and we can't really say much more except that the idea of TM as a website discussion board is at the heart of the set up so doing it any other way wouldn't be the same thing at all. Do we really need splinter groups? What would they add to TM - if anything?

TM is THE most popular magic forum on the internet (according to MSN and GOOGLE and ALEXA.COM—which is a pretty big accolade!***)

Why would we need to improve or change?

*** data sourced from keying in 'magic forum' as a search term. Alexa data is based on comparing TM with 3 UK magic forums. TM wins by a long short.

I don't really see the point to be honest, TM is a nice little forum where all the information is in one place. I can't really see how spreading it onto other sites is going to help anything.

Anyways, what would we do if we had a TalkMagic myspace group? Talk about magic? Send each other messages? No offense, but I was pretty sure we did that here.

But I suppose it would almost advertise the forum, I know a lot of people who have wanted to get into magic and luckily I have pointed them in the right direction (i.e royal road e.t.c). These kind of people would be less likley to search for a magic forum not knowing they existed, but they may be likley to see a myspace group/profile, which would encourage them to join the site and learn magic.

I think as said a million times, THIS FORUM NEEDS NO IMPROVEMENT.
If you're reading this, you found it.

We don't really WANT to encourage all and sundry coming here looking for secrets—which at present I would say 80% of new registrants are doing... look at the bottom of the homepage from time to time at the 'newest member'. They never post anything, and usually leave after the first visit, because they find no secrets, or they get flamed for asking for them.

TalkMagic works just fine as it is. Proven.

I wasn't saying there was a problem with TM.

Thinking about it now, I should rephrase what I was saying. What I should have said is using something like Myspace would help some people who are unsure how to properly get started in magic.

I know when I first started, the only place I could find magic was Marvins Magic. I honestly belived that everyone else just thought up their own tricks, and that was why I tempoarily stopped.

I wasn't trying to have a dig at TM, I'm very happy with it!

LondonI, it wasn't meant personally!

I think TMs level of discussion is slightly more advanced than Marvins, so when googling for something a bit more 'in depth' you'll find a place like TM.

Besides, has anyone read THIS today?

MySpace is a nasty place!

TM is better off as it is!

That sort of thing is really horrible Seige but really is all too common.

I used to use chat rooms when I was 15 and more than once met with a boy claiming to be 16 only to find that they were nearer 50. It's just too easy to do.

A few even got hold of my phone number and once my address, but luckily nothing worse than a few nasty phone calls ever came out of it.

I think if I had a kid, I'd be very worried about the sorts of people they were talking to, you just don't know who's out there.

Yes, it's terrible the internet. You think your chatting to a 16 year old girl and it's actually a 55 year old lorry driver from Carlisle. With a beard.

Joke..
