Sigfreid and Roy

Postby Duckman » Oct 21st, '03, 17:29

Ok. I'm new here, and not too great at magic. But I'm learning. Any way, my question. You know that sigfreid and Roy trick, I think it's called osmosis, where they make a tiger jump through one of the guys chests which is covered up by a veil? Well, where can I get supplies for that trick, or how could I do it myself? I hope I'm not out of line with this question. Thanks.

Welcome to the boards Duckman,

I guess you could ask the zoo about borrowing a tiger - but I'm not sure they would be that happy to comply.

Hi Duckman,

Welcome to the board.

My advice is to start with more regular magic, rather than attempting to jump in at the deep end.

No magician starts with such big effects, however there are many great albeit smaller ones, that don't rely on tigers.

Wow. I didn't expect a reply that fast. The reason I'm asking is because me and my buddy, Blonde Kaji, are making a website. We're both interested in magic, and we're thinking of doing something Alein the movie. The schtick is, one of us is on a bench, and the other pops out of his chest, a la Alien. I can do card tricks, but you can't get by on those alone.

Yo Duckman! I think the answer to your question is that we don't have these sort of illusions at hand to perform and can't advise you where to get supplies as such.

If you do a search on Google, or check out the links from magicweek.co.uk or allmagic.com, you'll see plenty of places where they specialise in large illusions and that might be a starting point.

That effect would I imagine be cheaper and easier with trick photography.

8) 8) 8)
this trick requires a lot of physical strength is only suitable for stage and needs a lot of practice with a partner that you know well.
alternatively you can achieve a similar effect with a sheet and a powerfull light behind it ie shadows merging through each other...??

Duckman

There's a post in this forum concerning large stage magic. The costs are astronomical to put on a show like S&R's, let alone the years of practice required.

Or are you just curious how it's done?

Being fair, most magicians here wouldn't dream of so blatantly asking how an effect is achieved. What's your motive?

Are you genuinely interested in becoming the 'Man who does the Alien in the stomach' trick???

Interesting...

I so totally am. As well as being curious, that trick would look great. I like freaking people out. On TV there's these 2 magicians, Stewert MacLoud and some other guy, forget what his name is, and they have brought a dark side to magic. The old "Cut your arm trick" was done by them to great effect. I'd love to see the reactions on peoples faces as I do this trick. I want to entertain by making people be shocked, like "Holy poop! That's nasty!", and to bring a spooky side to magic as the aforementioned has. Me and my buddy have been doing card tricks around town, and pretty soon I'm going to buy a raven. I might even buy an M5, but I'll have to save up for that. We've become the town's magic weirdo's, and to be able to pull this off, we might hit the big time. And like I said, this would look real cool on our site just as soon as I can get some footage onto my PC.

ok now dont tell anyone i told you this....

for an AWESOME "alien bursting from stomach" effect all you have to do is buy some brine shrimp eggs theyre commonly known as "space monkeys" you can get them from some dealers if you know where to look. Then rather than just putting them in a glass of water you swallow a couple 3 months before your show, this gives the monkeys time to grow and expand inside your abdomen (admittedly this doesnt leav much room for food but hey, Blaine can do it in the interests of his reputation so go for ir) Next, if you've timed it right the monkey will suddenly burst out of your stomach and rerally thrill your audience, however this only works once, after an audience has seen it once they quickly lose interest in seeing it again so make sure that when you do it you have a REALLY big audience...

Actually I wouldn't recommend this at all. Not sure if you've actually ever seen this Mog, but the conditions of a near perfect regulated temperature of your body warmth, mean the the sea monkeys grow very big and it makes a hell of a mess of your stomach. Plus it's very difficult to get them to come out on cue. Can be very embarrasing, of course with half your stomach missing and blood everywhere, embarrasment is not really an issue.

all true but if you feed yourself ice cubes with food colouring you can not only control the gestation time but also give your alien a wicked colur scheme.
also remember that they respond to light and can be trained to burst out on que, i think theres a book about this i think its called alien resurection.
make sure you get the sea monky's not the trylobyte ones as thease will eat you alive then your audience and your not covered on public liability for trylobytes.

So, let me get this straight. These monkeys will actually, not metaphorically or using a trick, burst through my stomach? Like, break the skin and leave my intestines decorating the side walk? I've got to admit, as much as it hurts doing what one of you guys (No names) told me, it seems alot more inviting than having some spill from my gut.
