Talent Show support needed!

Postby danata » Aug 9th, '07, 09:15

Hi everyone, this is Mike Danata. I need your support!

Actually that's not strictly true, in fact it's someone else who needs your support, his name is James More. I've been following James for a few years now, I think he was fourteen when I first met him & I taught him how to back palm cards etc, he developed a great little act, & I even gave him a guest spot in my Could It Be Magic! show at the Barrington Theatre. Since that time he has grown into a MEGA Performer!

Two years ago James got through to the finals of the Young Magician Of The Year Competition, but it wasn't to be............

At around the same time, he entered the Bournemouth Star Trail, he won every single heat, gaining not only the audience vote but also the Celebrity Judges vote as well. At the very last hurdle in the finals he came second, first place always seem to go to a singing act!

James had emailed letters of support from Jeff Mcbride, & also Rik Thomas from Las Vegas!

Last Sunday, James bounced back to the Star Trail competition (having left it alone last year) & won his heat, with a STUNNING performance! Full of energy, & skillful magic. He now gets through to the final on 26th August this also happens to be a BANK HOLIDAY weekend, so there could be magicians in or around Bournemouth at this time, plus of course the ones that are local to this area anyway. I am BEGGING for your support!

The audience gets the chance to cast a vote, so the audience can make a difference!! James "Feeds" off the audience reaction, I know that his performance will thrill EVERYONE who loves good magic! Magicians & lay people alike. He gets tremendous responses from everyone who sees him.
This Sunday past he was simply SENSATIONAL, I URGE you to give this young lad, your support at the final, which will be held on Sunday 26th August at the Carrington House Hotel, Knyveton Road, Bournemouth, Dorset BH1 3QQ .

If anyone needs accomodation, hotels, B&B etc, I will do what I can to help with this, just contact me. Show starts at around 7.30 pm.

I promise it will be a spectacular night!!

Best wishes

Mike

I can't be there myself, but I know someone in the area who loves magic. I'll pass on the details.

Thank you very much for your support. If you go to youtube & put in the search box james more star trail, you will see a video of some of what he was doing TWO YEARS AGO!!!! He's even better now!!!

If you know how to get a link to it on this site, I would be so grateful, because I don't know how to do it!!!!

Can anyone help with this?

I really would like you all to see, some of his amazing talent, then if you can come & support him on the night, that would be great!!

Many people are already coming to Bournemouth to support James.

James is totally unaware of this, at the moment, but when he finds out, he will be blown away, & I am sure will have a few words to say on Talk Magic!!

In the meantime, I would like to thank everyone, on his behalf!!

When James got to the finals of the Young Magician Of The Year competition two years ago, & wasn't placed, it was an injustice. The footage on youtube is showing part of that act, it has all the ingredients to be a winner, lets hope through the Star Trail, James can at last reap the success that he truly deserves.

Remember the audience gets a chance to vote! So your vote really can count!

Best Wishes & thanks again

James got through to the finals, but unfortunately wasn't placed.

Yes it was all rather strange! & I must admit, I was very dissapointed.
Incidentally what we are talking about is the Magic Circle Young Magician Of The Year Competition two years ago......

At that time, through the pages of Abra (The weekly Magic Magazine) I wrote several letters (which were published) asking if anyone knew the criteria for the voting, but NO ONE responded at all, & in the end Don Bevan (The then editor, pulled the plug on it).

I don't want to mention the winners, because I know at the time when I did, a couple of them were upset at my comments, whoever wins I am really pleased for them. I can totally accept someone not winning, or getting placed, BUT on the basis of what I THOUGHT the criteria was for the voting, along with the fact that if I was WRONG absolutely NO ONE were prepared to put me right & say what the criteria for the judges votes actually was!!!

Then in my opinion plus that of many others, James should have been placed.

If indeed (as I thought) the judges were supposed to award so many points for:

1 SKILL (then surely James should have scored high, because he is incredibly skillful)

2 APPEARANCE (Well he looks great, clean, smart & tidy, so should have scored high for that as well)

3 ROUTINING (His routining was /is SUPERB!)

4 CONTENT (well he certainly has plenty of that, & it's GREAT CONTENT)

5 MIME & DANCE (Again very very good) Obviously a Patter act would be marked for Patter, instead of Mime.

6 STAGE PRESENCE (Again he oozes that very special quality)

There may have been other things to add to the above that I THOUGHT were important at the time, but the main thing I thought was that the acts had to "Represent Excellence In Magic" which surely James did then & does now (after all, the winners are representing the Magic Circle!)

I have no idea on what basis the judges voted, or why they voted the way they did, but James didn't seem upset at all, he was just pleased as punch that he got through to the final! James said to me at the time "Who would have thought a couple of years ago, that I'd be here in the finals of the Young Magician Of The Year Competition at the Famous Magic Circle in London?"

James is such a nice person, an incredibly dedicated & talented performer, & that's why I am BEGGING each & every one of you to give him your support in Bournemouth on the 26th August at the Carrington House Hotel, Knyveton Road, Bournemouth, Dorset BH1 3QQ .

I can think of no one more worthy than James.

"One thing's for sure, your gonna see more of JAMES MORE!"

Best wishes

Mike

Talent Show Support Needed.

I have known JAMES MORE for a few years now having first met him in Mike Danata's Magic Studio, where he showed me playing cards disappearing into a bucket. He was a very young lad then still at school, but it was obvious he had a special skill. My wife and I last saw him perform at a hotel in Bournemouth a couple of years ago, not just with cards but also with a magic cane and other props, and I think finally producing from nowhere a PINK DOVE. He blew the audience away with his skill. It is obvious that some of us have a special talent to go far (like a footballer or golfer) and we are sure JAMES is one on those gifted persons. We wish him well on the 26th August. We will be there CHEERING. Norman & Margaret. (Poole. Dorset)
