TT

Postby zed » Aug 16th, '07, 22:10

Hey guys I'm new to magic and have just bought a fake TT. I haven't tried it out on anyone yet, but it looks so obvious. I mean it doesn't look too bad, but you would have to be blind not to notice it. Do you guys use distraction or keep your distance so people can't inspect your hands? Also what is the best trick to use with a TT - the vanishing silk cloth seems pretty good?

Do you have a vernet version? Keep the hand moving and no one will notice. I have used it right in people's faces and they never noticed. Just a matter of confidence and practise.

Yup, just act natural. You will find your hand falls naturally with the thumb hidden behind the palm.

Cool thanks guys. BTW how does the Vernet TT differ? I', not sure what type mine is, it's a hard TT rather than a soft one. Also what is the best trick to do with the TT? When I say best I mean most impressive?

The vernet is the best quality, they do hard and soft tt. My favourite with a TT would border on exposure so i can't post. Let me just say "i love a glass of DRY wine"

in terms of technique, try and keep the tip of your TT pointing towards the spec. where possible use the 4 fingers of yr hand as a "cover" but in a relaxed and natural way. as said earlier, keeping your hands moving helps, but again... relaxed and natural. practice in front of a mirror... A LOT!

for tricks, I enjoy making things disappear into a large dinner napkin, specs seem to focus on the napkin which gives you plenty of opportunity to misdirect and ditch your actual gimmick.

eventually, if you decide you really like using your TT, consider buying this:

thoroughly recommended.

Unless you direct the audiences attention to the thumb people will not notice, I promise you!

I remember when I first purchased mine and I thought I can't realistically pull this off, it just looks so out of place. Trust me people are not going to look at you expecting to see a fake thumb. I was nervous when I first used it so I went the whole day walking around with it. I shoke peoples hands and I did everything to see if people would notice it. I tell you, no one noticed it. Just try it for a day and you'll see exactly the same response that I did.

maybe you should/could edit the initial post as your comment about what it looks like might be a little too close to exposing.....not being picky, just thought that for what it is worth maybe edit it for us.

I second all the other tips though!

Too many muggles are familiar with this application now (thanks largely to Marvin's). Start off with something like a salt vanish and reappearance at the dinner table, you'll stand a much better chance of fooling them in my very humble opinion.

Don't be afraid of people spotting it. When I was about 11 I bought a magic kit that had a horribly made TT. It was too small for me so it stuck out about 3/4 of an inch. Even with that and the skills of an eleven year old I never got caught using it. Speaking of which I haven't ever got one since then. I forgot how fun they were. Oh well one more thing to put on the list.

I have a weekly restaurant show in our city and without a doubt the most requested effect I get week-after-week is to vanish a fistfull of salt....

I love Darwin's salt vanish although his routine requires long sleeves or preferably a jacket because of the patter.

It's not often that I do a bill change but I was at a party last week with a slightly younger audience that I normally perform for and for some reason I just knew that I was going to be asked if I could change money

I was ready so as not to disapoint and by the reactions that I got I'll be performing this more often.

Seldom leave home without my TT

I do a basic fist full of salt vanish and then borrow a bill (bank note from a spec) shap it into a funnel in mid air and then have salt appear to flow out of it

The financial cost of a TT is inversely proportional to the number of effects it can be used for. My TT is possibly the most "magical" item I own and is absolutely invaluable. Do not underestimate the power of a TT.
