I really like to float things.

I have the usual toys, IT, ITR, Loops and a universal flotation device.

How about - fishing line? If I want to levitate something a little heavy (martini glass). I know it does not stretch as much as a loop of course. The other drawback would be the visibility. But, I am dealing with some impromtu effect in a dark club with drunk people only.

What you float and how you float it is within your own grasps of creation. You know obviously hookups and methods judging by your arsenal, and you also know the limitations of your surroundings.

Therefore, there's probably nothing more anyone could tell you than you could work on for yourself.

Also, if you're performing in a dark bar for drunk people, I don't think it really matters what you use - fishing line, dental floss, string....

Thanks, this helps out some.

As a newbie what I was looking for was any obvious pitfalls like "yeah - i tried that and it was a really really bad idea".

If it helps, I actually practice thread work with black or white cotton. That way you can test your hookups. Then, decide whether or not you need strong thread.

It's a bit like a multiple choice questionairre to eliminate the bits you don't need.

If the lighting is dark/dim you can use f/l - from a distance - but run a black marker over it a few times to take the sheen off it and make it dull...that way you don't have to worry about the reflection of the light

A bit of fine grit sandpaper helps take the shine off as well.

tfeller, i like to float things aswell. but i have to say levitations are something i wouldn't do for drunkards in a bar. simply because drunk people lose their inhibitions and don't mind shouting things out, usually their alcohol fuelled assumptions are wrong and it doesn't matter, but in this case they are probably going to be right. i've found penetration effects go down well with people who've had a few and a bar is a good place for a coin in bottle or coin through pint glass.
