I found the same recently. Having watched performances over the internet (be it youtube or whatever), I felt extremely bored by those videos where the effect is just performed for the camera, even in those rare cases when it was done at a reasonable quality, while those videos in which the magician interacted with an audience, were far more entertaining. Of course, there are certain stage acts (thinking of Cardini for example, or Lance Burton) which do not directly involve an audience and they are nevertheless enjoyable. Why? Because, apart from being of extremely good quality, they are also at least done for an audience, so the magician is not performing for a camera. That said, of course these magicians are great magicians because they have no need to illustrate their skill of throwing cards around in fancy ways in front of a poor quality digital camera.
