It's definitely not staged. Personally, I think the "cat" ending was a little weak. There's far too many possibilities to explain that part away - and, for me, it weakens the overall effect. Even though the book and page are a completely free choice, the finish can make it seem as if they were forced in some way. If he'd ended with the word revelation, it would have been stronger for me.

regardless of the cat, I am curious as to what book test it was. It looked like the 'ideal' one
