Duck Change

Postby cardshark » Aug 30th, '07, 20:32

I recently purchased Dan and Dave's Trilogy DVD set and upon practicing some of the tricks, I can nail a few of the moves required to perform them.

However, I cannot do the Duck Change. The cards fly from my grip like a card spring, they do not flip, they just go in the motion of the russian shuffle. I angle the cards 45 degrees, and make sure my middle finger is just hanging on, but still no luck. I can do the other change, (Super Flip by Ben Harris is it?) well, but I have had no luck with this change for a few days.

Can anyone offer any help? It would be appreciated.

Well, I found that it helps if you put your thumb at about the middle of the card's back edge, and put your middle finger at the top righter corner of the card and proceed to do the move from there.

Assuming that you are right handed, make sure that the right edge of your middle finger is like a few millimetres away from the edge of the right side of the card(s). The thumb is just somewhere along the right side of the card(s). Do not move the thumb. The whole move occurs by just bending the middle finger inwards. Just bend your middle finger inwards and the card should propel and flip, thus creating the change.

With practice, this change should become very, very easy and you should be able to do this without thinking about it. Over time, you should also be able to do the change with the middle finger closer to the centre. This is useful if you think spectators will suspect something if your middle finger is too close to the edge.

Hope this helps. I have actually taught my brother this who knows nothing about card handling, and he learnt it very quickly. I think Dan and Dave don't teach it in the best way.
