At the end of the day, I'm on this forum because I like it and yes magic is the attraction.
However I do feel that the real strength of any board ulitimately comes from the relationships. The question is then, does having a forum amongs all the magic forums that would give more scope for getting to know one another, chatting about whatever, would that help or hinder the board?

Clearly it is felt that for those members that have been invited to the inner parts of the forum, it is an advantage. I personally believe it would be good for everyone else as well. Sure I'll be here whether there is such a place or not, because basically I'm here to discuss magic, but hey getting to know a few people better would definitely be a bonus in my book

Thanks, it's appreciated. Though just to clarify as I feel I may not have been clear. It's not about an "invite" only forum, it's about a forum that can be a little broader than just pure magic. I feel in such an environment you can better get to know people. Even as it is for example magicdiscoman has given a fair amount of personal information, ie about his health, his desire for a girlfriend and liking of debbie magee etc. Now I for one feel I know him better as a result and this is I believe a good thing for the general comradeship of the board. Now it's true that eventually you can get there with the system as it is, I just think that a forum as suggested would be a catalyst for such interaction. Dunno if any of this makes any sense or if it's just the ramblings of a happy toad :P

glad to see someone's been paying attention.

just for you i was widowed at 26, my wife prefering pethadine to life, i like to talk about myself and i like to share other peoples lives so i support whole heartedly an open lounge or public bar, its another place i can haunt late at night when most people are tucked up in bed.
i worked nights for five years and never quite got out of the habbit, anyway a public place may well be good it seem to have worked for us lifers on this board.

I agree, I often pop in here late at night hoping in vain for something interesting to read as I wait for a download to drip in.

I think the issue is one of cost though isnt it?
Every letter, every full stop has to be stored on a server somewhere, space and bandwidth cost money. While the sponsor would be happy to dig a little deeper to support twice the traffic if the content is magic and they sell a little more but if that extra traffic is "i have a blue dog, what colours ur fish" they might not want to pay for it.

Having said that, I'd love a place we could do that.
We like each other because of the people we are, people that like each other will always have a bit of banter, unavoidable, if it was in a special room at least it isnt mixed up with the real reason we are here and can be flushed out on a regular basis as this stuff has no need to be kept.

Either that or invite people into the one that is already there a bit quicker, privs lost if we muck about, never let back in. Grass is always greener, you have one, we want one, lol.
I aint learning funny handshakes just so i can tell you what I'm doing tonight.
:)

Just my two worthless pennies.
