Latex Fruits

Postby Farlsborough » Sep 3rd, '07, 10:04

Hey guys-
Why is it that every single damn thing I want to get my hands on proves to be the most difficult find ever?!

Anyway, if anyone knows where you can get hollow latex fruit (preferably a banana) for productions, please let me know. The only place I seem to be able to find is "elpees" on the internet, but they don't have anything else I want and their minimum order is £30 :( (Why do people do that to us?! If I'm paying postage anyway surely it's worth their while?!)

And while you're at it, anyone know where you can get realistic rubber olives?!

EDIT: or.. thinking about it - a latex banana is £4.50 - presuming they don't just have the one available, if six other people fancy a collapsible latex banana, post up here and I'll bulk buy!

Does the fruit have to be latex? If not then garden centres and similar places sell artificial fruit, hollow plastic stuff, but very realistic.

Mark Jenest's 'Jiggernaut' (see http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic1522.php) uses very realistic fake stuffed green olives but I don't recall anyone offering spare ones for sale. Perhaps Cards4magic might be able to help as they sell various kinds of 'peas' for the Three Shell routines and may know of a source for the olives.

'Yankee' Tom Lauten, of this very forum, produced some amazing fake narners which he showed me in the flesh—for a very famous UK magicians. Yes, they were hollow, and were scrunchable to almost nothing.

Maybe ask him—he may still have the 'moulds' ???

Hi Mandrake - yes, I'm afraid it does have to be latex, when I say productions I mean from people's pockets, ears etc. so it has to be collapsible/palmable. But I'm also looking for a fake (and hopefully realistic) lime for a jumbo load in...

you guessed it... Jiggernaut... which, funnily enough is what I need the olives for! (I got the jiggernaut routine from his video "Miracles While You Wait" - didn't feel like paying £12 for two rubber olives - great video though, I use his "chap trick" all the time).

Re. the olives, people have said you can make your own out of fake grapes and a piece of red sponge which sounds like a great idea, only all the fake grapes I've seen are too light and translucent.

So, to clarify, I am looking for:

A hollow, latex, collapsible banana or other people who want one

A fake lime, either plastic or polyfoam - the more realistic the better

and some fake stuffed olives, failing that a bunch of dark green (olive green, you might say!) grapes.

Phew!

Edit: cheers Seige, I'll do that

The lime is still available and at that price, you could get three!

Like these?

I don't know the Jiggernaut routine, but think about what you might be able to do with a PK Ring!

Smaller set of olives here: http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/sh ... sp?id=8787

I haven't done a comprehensive search, so there might be a UK supplier.

Hi Part timer,
Cheers, yeah - that lime is just what I need, but I could do without the £12 shipping fee :( (Unfortunately even a lot of UK places that do display foods have huge minimum orders or a high courier only postage cost too).

And those olives - again, ideal, but at £15 plus shipping for four... I can buy 2 for around £10 if I buy jiggernaut as a separate effect, but I just feel hard done to spending near enough £5 each on something which so easily could get lost on the floor of a nightclub!

My searches didn't throw out any obvious UK suppliers and, as you say, it's the shipping that kills. It's certainly put me off ordering certain things from the USA in the past.

Some magic shops will order in stuff especially, but I supect they will charge you more than you'd pay for shipping charges from the States.

Well, I might regret this, but I invested in a sac of alginate, a bottle of air-dry latex and some rubber paints... oh, and a banana and a jar of olives. Ok, it may turn out completely cack, but I'm sure I'll have fun moulding... things...

Anyone interested in one of those bananas, let me know.

My mate's father actually makes realistic fake food as a job, for advertisements and things. His website- http://www.juicyfruitsuk.com/. May be worth checking. You can contact him easily by phone.

hmm...think you could get 2 in your mouth, then pull them out length ways, slowly, individually?

;)

Hank Lee sells them too.

Of course, you still need to pay international postage, but that just encourages me to buy more stuff to make it seem worthwhile. :)
