Fake skin

Postby Ed Wood » Sep 20th, '07, 10:50

I have an idea for using fake skin in a close up situation I am though having real problems getting hold of any. My normal suppliers of such things have told me there's a bit of a shortage at the moment, does anyone know of anyone who has any in stock.
Also could anyone who has experience with FS be kind enough to PM me, whilst my idea is pretty simple I feel it may break the rules if I discuss it in too much detail on here. I'm doubtful if my idea is possible, especially in close up as I'm under the impression that FS isn't particularly good for close scrutiny.
Cheers, Ed

Tom Lauten is the man who could answer this.
I have been after his liquid skin which has been listed as out of production on Alakazam for quite a while now.

I was at Alakazam a couple of weeks ago and there was a fair few people coming in after the stuff and being turned away. They thought they'd get some more but no idea when.

Maybe some kind of theatrical supplies shop could help. I know there was one called Fox's in Covent Garden at one time...

The Liquid Skin made by Tom *may not* be what you're after.

I am sure Tom won't mind me saying this, but you could achieve pretty much the same results with items available in the high street (obviously not to such a high standard, tho!)

If you want to PM me with a bit more detail, I'll see what I can come up with. As we've discussed years ago here on TM about fake skin, it's really not as straightforward as it seems.

People often think they can perform miracle feats such as the old 'string from stomach' routine which Blaine re-kindled. Or the 'coins from fleshwounds' by Angel. But remember, these guys have BIG budgets, and hiring a Hollywood SFX artist to do this per-show isn't out of their reach at all.

I think this may very well be the case with what I'm hopeing to do. I'm pretty sure that most fake skin wont with stand the sort of close scrutiny that close up entails and a Hollywood budget would be necessary to be able to get away with it. Anyhow, I'll send you a PM and you can let me know if I'm dillusional or not.
