The Beard British Bullet Catch

Postby Beardy » Sep 26th, '07, 22:31

Just thought I would throw something out at the moment.

A while ago, I saw Penn and Teller's dual bullet catch, with signed bullets - possibly one of the most entertaining and impressive bullet catch routines that I have seen. Perhaps because they are signed bullets, perhaps because there are two "magic wands" used...or maybe because I don't to the life pf me have any clue whatsoever how it is achieved.

But the bullet catch is not something that we Brits can do...guns being illegal and all. And don't give me that .22 bullet catch magic trick s*** - i am talking the proper stuff - the stuff you can do in shows.

I began working on a bullet catch that is practical to do, and that we Brits can do...legally

Thus, "The Beard British Bullet Catch" was born! Or maybe the "Beard Catch", or the "British Bullet Catch" - I am unsure of the name as of yet ;)

But it certainly is a nice effect, that we Brits can conduct safely! (or as safe as any Bullet Catch can really be! :D)

this uses a revolver air pistol, and a little metal pellet

The spectator signs the pellet (genuinely one pellet used, no dupes), before loading it themselves into the little "loading area", before it is closed, and loaded into the pistol.

You put on a pair of goggles, a hat, and (if male) a groin guard (note that all of these are optional...and the groin guard gets a good laugh ;))

Allow the spectator to take aim (as yet, I have only used a friend take aim...not sure if I would trust a spec yet...I have watched the Prestige...), shoot, and you catch the pellet in your teeth - hell, for added effect, why not jump backwards and go flying? hehe

You never go near your mouth to take the pellet out, giving no possibility for a switch (and as I said, only one is used throughout...a switch is too "dirty" for me, I decided) - the spec can remove it (or you can spit it into a glass that they are holding ;)) and say that it is genuinely their pellet.

You accept your applause, and thank God that you survived another performance

And why am I telling you this? I am hoping to get a video up - but when? I do not know - this isn't something that I can just "do" in my living room :?

Ah well - just thought that I would share my achievement!

Edit: Now Officially named the "Beardykins Bullet Catch"

:D

That sounds great. My favorite part of being a magician is the fact that when we want to create an effect we do. (if one has the patiences to do it)

Anyway cheers and congratulations beard!

This does sound rather good. I tried it once with a spud gun but ended up with a stung nose.
I look forward to seeing this. :D

Hmm can this be done with an AK47 beard? if i can get hold of one can I try it on you?

Actually this isnt a bad idea. Why anyone would want to catch bullet is beyond me but what the hey i am bitter and twisted.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

I was just thinking the other day about a bullet "catch" production. Using a cap gun. Its easy enough, just secretly get the bullet in your hand then have somebody shoot a cap gun.

beauty of this is that ot os a signed bullet ;)

unfortunately, if anyone has seen the prestige or masked magician, they may suspect a dupe :?

and I did say that it would be hard to get a vid in my living room ;)

but thought I would hype it up you know - all in the name of fun :D

i'd hate to visualise it, but you could dance round that and perform it topless

if you called it the Beardykins Bullet Catch...you could shorten it and name it the BBC...

15% of your soul...

Sounds cool. Penn and Teller had a sling shot 'bean' catch I think. I saw a clip of penn shooting a signed bean into Teller's mouth. Aptly, blood spewed out of his mouth after catching it...
