This is the one where you see a card held in mid-air, they flick the card, and it changes in mid air. Trying not to give too much away, but I'm having trouble with the " snap. "(People who know how to do this trick should know what I'm talking about.) I will continue to practice, but I was wondering if there any tips from those who have learned this trick.

it's called the snap colour change for very good reason when you consider your fingers..

I understand what you are supposed to do, but I can never seem to get the card all the way around.

forget the change... just focus on snapping your fingers.

I dont use the snap change, well not until recently, when I discovered a way to do the hot shot cut with a double so you are left holding 'one card ' you caught in mid air, and when the spec tells you its the wrong card, you are in prime position to do the snap change without bringing the card anywhere near the deck..

I find that way, its psychologically more effective I guess.

You're sh*tting me... I.D, if you show me a 2 card hot shot cut followed by a snap change I will run to the bar and buy you a pint of your choice*!

Regarding the actual snap change, I'd agree - focus on snapping your fingers rather than dragging off the card, and mess around with the positions and angles of your fingers, it's slightly (or perhaps "sleightly") different for everyone.

I like using it a la Richard Sanders as an impressive last phase (or 2nd to last phase) of the Ambitious Card Routine, where you hold an X-card just over the top of the deck face up and as you push in "their selection" (ho ho) it jumps to the top in an exceedingly visual fashion, like. Good alternative to the Braue crimped card if you don't want to have to knacker 2 cards every performance.

I've always had trouble with the snap change, with new cards or without. I think my fingers are too short. Anyways, I think that it can't be used too much just because of the angles.


That's right, I'm saying it's not a good effect because I can't do it.

I am teching my 12 year old to do the Snap Change, I found the best way to get it right for you is to do it in Slow Motion then speed up the more confident you get. It seems to be working for my son..

Do you mean double as in two cards...or d---le f--c-d? Because if you mean two cards I will personally Pay Pal the money to Farlsborough to buy you a second drink!

ID, I have seen this done and it is indeed spectacular. Congrats on getting it down.

If you move your thumb ever so slightly either way a second time, instead of staying together, they magically split mid air and spin off in different directions allowing you to catch one in either hand.

Maybe you should try some of these things:

- don't grip the cards too tightly
- experiment with your finger placement. holding the cards too far in the corner made it difficult for me in the beginning.
- concentrate (as many stated before) on the snap/slide.
- concentrate on the part where the cards are separated (don't know how to put it better without giving too much away)

But basically I'd say: be loose and easy on your handling/grip. And practice.

ID, that's impressive. I've always been fond of the Hot-shut cut and have taken some pride in mine, but 2 cards?? I tip my hat to you.

Another fun method might be to use that method Gregory Wilson teaches in Double Take and simply pull a D****e from the top, shoot it into one hand and then do the snap change.

I used to have problems with this, until I realised where I was going wrong, then it became easy.

If you try this it will help you work out the technique:
Hold the cards with just the thumb and second finger, and start doing the move.
Now all you have to do is push a little with the first finger.
