Never mind the story being reported - it's precisely so fact-free as to be nothing more than gossip. The stitching in the article itself is the thing. A chum of mine comments:
"I'm vastly amused by the wording: "apparently walking through the Great Wall of China"; "seemingly making the Statue of Liberty disappear" and "escaping from the infamous Alcatraz prison." My initial thought was, regardless of how you view D Copperfield, this was displeasing bad grace by the Beeb (about half a step away from shouting "Pfff, it's a trick" from the crowd), but reading it again it's obvious this is carefully subbed according to official guidelines. Somebody's sat down and judged visual effects to be deceptive, but a mechanical trick to be a fact. I have an excellent image of sleeves rolled up and a graph."
