oh... well i guess that could count, i guess what I'm really asking for is something signed or something. but i realize that if the trick is impressive enough, i dont need like my name given out as a souvenir. and i think i might stick with card/coin magic, bringing in extra props just seems weird

Because everyone carries round decks of cards. :)

Seriously, if you want to show them some magic, as long as you aren't trying to saw one of them in half, does it matter that you might need some extra props?

Something reasonably small, like 'Bang On', sounds right to me. (Yes, it is a card trick, but not the usual sort.)

true, well tell you the truth i only really messed around with cards and coins, and with the time constraints, i'll probably don't have enough time to practice any thing else new to semi perfection

and bang on seems nice, but also seems way to fast (and pricey). i think if i wanted to do something like bang on i'll just use a ID

In which case, cards and coins it is!

Yes, an ID would work well. I don't know the format of US college interviews, but I would have thought you'd want an effect that was fairly fast.

Please don't do magic in these interviews. Magic doesn't get you everywhere, this is not the place for it.

Hey, man, I'm in the same position; however, I don't think I'm gonna try to do magic in a college interview. I might tell them it's something I'm interested in, but if I try an effect and I f*** up, that's bad karma all the way.

if you think about it, people show their works to these reps (such as school newspapers or whatnot), why not show them some magic?

Fair enough. I just had images of you going in putting on a show instead of doing an interview :)

I'd keep it short and eye catching. How about going in with a TT, a seemingly impromptu vanish, production or colour change could be a good way to go.

I think you have to be very conscious to have your trick be a example that leaves a quick but strong impression, rather than be anything showy. If it is to be something that feels impromptu (i.e. I didn't come prepared with a bird in my hat, but rather stashed something in my pocket to show just in case), then I'd say you need to stick with something small and simple.

A vanish of anything other than a card or coin seems a little ostentatious for a college interview.

I'd say go for a short (probably no more than a minute) but sweet card trick. If you have a great coin trick that doesn't require a table (you may just be sitting in a chair), then you could do that too. Plus, then you could just say, "oh I just happen to have some coins in my pocket, let me give you a quick example of my hobby."

When I went to a university for an interview, I thought about bringing some magic with me. I decided it might look a bit forced to 'just happen' to have something on me.

They asked about my magic and I explained a bit about it and they asked if I had anything I could show them. Someone else had been for an interview and done a trick. I said why I'd chosen not to take anything (I am not really a coin performer), but I still felt it would have gone better, had I been prepared.

Mind you, I still got an offer, and I ended up studying there.
