Sorry, but quotes like this are a thorn in my side. It is true of the government, but not the people.

I see this a lot online.

When Brits refer to 'America' in posts like this, they mean the American government. The political decision makers - and, most commonly, official foreign policy.

But when American people see the word, they often take it to mean them personally.

It's like talking about Britiain or the British. I'm British, but I don't claim to represent the nation or make decisions on its behalf, so I don't answer to the name of Britain...

Britain followed America into Iraq. That's true. But I marched against the war and opposed it from the beginning. Many other Brits did the same.

Just an observation.

That is so true. I recently learned that the protest against the war in Iraq was global, and that it is in the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest protest ever held. Still, we are there which makes it clear who really is in charge. I say they are worse than the chavs. Hey, I learned a new word.

Only if I can be minister for the occult and the promotion of irrational belief.

My first decree would make it illegal to deny the Cottingley fairies.

They are real. They've been seen on Hampstead Heath.
