Derren's Pure Effect and Absolute Magic - I own 'em

Postby Nathan_Howard » Dec 5th, '07, 01:30

Hi All,

I've got both of these titles in pristine condition and it now seems they're raising stupid amounts of cash through dealers and auctions. How much are they are (approx) actually worth and is it true that they will never be reprinted?

Cheers,

Nathan

they wont ever be reprinted, no

approximately, they are worth this:

absolute magic - £50-80

pure effect - £75-110

though really, they are worth whatever people are prepared to pay for them

I have both books but am yet to open them, they are still shrink wrapped / factory sealed or whatever term you wish to use.

However, I have no intention to part with them at this time and will be opening them up when I feel ready to give them the attention they deserve.

Which book would one recomend reading first and why?

I own both too and after reading through both of them I don't actually think that they are worth that much. I think a lot has to do with hype and the fact that there aren't many of them.

thats true enough...though when I read absolute magic, I thought that was the best £75 in a while, before I sold it on to get my money back :P

so you dont think it is worth it?

I'll give you £60 for both ;)

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy reading them and have no plans to sell them. It's just if I didn't own a copy then I wouldn't spend that much money for them.

I wouldn't say NEVER when it comes to reprinting. I'm not saying Derren Brown is a liar, but somewhere down the road, a reprint is certainly not out of the question. As it relates to the value of the originals - a reprint wouldn't necessarily devalue your original prints. I don't think it will be anywhere in the near future, but I could see Mr. Brown bringing them back at some point.

And are they worth the money? Well yes, definitely. Good theory is worth an infinite amount more than any effect explanation, provided you give it enough thought.
