Shrinking and Expanding Head Illusion

Postby Lord Freddie » Dec 11th, '07, 13:10

I have used the search function and have drawn a blank.
Does anyone have this illusion, the one that looks like a hypnodisc and makes it look as if people's heads expand and shrink?
It's about £20 from many magic suppliers but not having seen a review, it could either be amusing or rubbish.

:D

Yes, I got this in for NUMS. And it's about 16 inches, which makes it hard to post.

It works, but it aint magic.

Mr Valentine, you're welcome to one if you want it.

I would love one, sir. I think it could be a funny little routine in my cabaret show and useful for 'other' things on stage.

Consider it yours.

Now, just need a home for the other 4! I really didn't think they'd sell due to the 'novelty' rather than 'magic' aspect.

Perhaps I'll put them on the shop after all...

You're a true gentlemen. Maybe they'd work for kids shows?
There's a lot of scope for things like this.

There sure is a lot of scope. The main part of which involves impressing the wife...

Actually, it's me looking at her when it spins t'other way. Makes things far less scary!

Seige, you are a wrong'un.

I've seen this spinny-disc on a few occasions and it does work - it's only been used as a throwaway, but it does use the whole audience.

you can get a mini one (about 6-7") with a plastic rabbit for about 4 quid...

they work far better in my opinion, and you can actually use them for mental-flavoured work too if framed correctly...they work on the palm beautifully...

See a demo here:

I saw Bruce demonstrate this at TMC and it is even more effective live than watching the Youtube demo. But you need to buy a cordless screwdriver in addition to the disc.

As Seige says, it's not really magic as it's so obviously an optical illusion, and you couldn't really pass it off as pseudo-hypnosis either. It may go well with other demonstrations of "body magic", perhaps.

Chris Capehart does a nice comedy routine with this one too, not particularly magical, but a nice throw-away

I tihnk in the context of my surreal comedy show, something like this would work well as a bit of a laugh. At the end of the day, if it's something the audience enjoy and have quite possibly never seen before then that'll do for me Tommy.
