Just received an offer from Uni :/

Postby Beardy » Dec 18th, '07, 15:42

hmmmm

I just received an offer from Swansea University, and now it seems that I have to work for the honour.

There was me expecting them saying "I want 320 points from you, and you are in"

(At A level, an A is 120 points, a B is 100 points, a C is 80 points e.t.c)

and I am thinking...with my E in Biology at AS level (which is worth 20 points) then all I shall need is BBB! Yayness!

And along comes my offer today

"We want 320 UCAS Tarriff points..."

(I think woop!)

"...excluding biology"

"WHHAAAAATTTTT!"

Now it seems that they don;t care about my little 20 point grade, and want me to get ABB

Sods...now I have to work to get into University...

I could have flown in with BBB...now I have to actually work hard...

hmmmm...

Love

Chris

Like Lomster says, you'll be fine, but remember that nothing worth achieving is ever easy

You don't have to work hard to get ABB. Good luck nonetheless.

I got BCC at AS...

Now I am re-taking some psych modules to get that up to an A grade. Been working my ass off to get my coursework at 100% (finally done ;))

I am re-sitting one of my english lit modules that I got an E in, in hopes to bring my C up to a B

And I was 2 marks off a B in drama and Theatre Studies, but can't do anything about that. I just hope it's up to scratch at the moment! We have been marked every day for the last 2 months and we don't get to see our marks :?

You work hard Beardy.

The pressure is really on at A level. It's probably the worst exam stress I ever had (far worse than my five years at university) and it sounds like you have the right attitude and you're coping fine.

The better performers in my experience always realise that long term benefits come from putting yourself through a bit of hard work in the short term. You know, head down and ignoring the distractions for a few hours every night. It's a harder mental battle to win than you might think - took me bloody long enough and I managed to waste a fair few years in the process. You seem to have this sorted though, top bloke! :D
You know what it's like, trying to chip off a little piece of a very large block every time you study and it seems to be getting nowhere. But then you get into a rhythm and then suddenly *blink* ..it's all over with.

If you cope with this little lot then you'll breeze university, seriously.

Anyways I'm waffling (I earned that right when I turned 30  (WooHoo! so there's at least one benefit :D )).

Heeds Doon!

You're quite welcome Beardo. Well I say Beardo, but are manly enough to have one yet?!? Heh. I've been hearing stories of girlie pink drinks with cherries in them.

Warmest regards to your mum, anyhow.

All the best people get ABB at A-level. Leeds let me into medicine with that, stupid bugg3rs

It's worth putting in the graft to get good A-levels... the step from GCSE to A-level is probably the most significant in your educational career (excluding degree to PhD possibly, I haven't experienced that). A degree can be hard work, but there's just a lot of it... conceptually, it's not massively more difficult. The difference between GCSE maths, physics, biology etc and their A-level counterpart is noticeable.

I'm not going to say "I'm sure you'll be fine" Beard, because if you party every night and don't work, you won't. It's not necessarily "hard work", but there comes that crunch point when you've simply got to put in some hours. If you recognise that point, then you'll be fine :D

My top recommendation - stay well clear of girls! I got a girlfriend (who was 22 at the time   ) not long before revision period, and that's probably why I ended up getting ABB and not my predicted AAB, or the AAA I was fully capable of.

They have to take you Beard. For all our sakes. Tell me the name of the bloke who lets you in to uni I can "pursade" him with a few of my friends.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Yes absolutely. It's definitely bigger than the jump from A- to degree level.

Neither have I, but I have a lot of friends from the same department who say it's much easier... No pressure, being your own boss and so forth.
Mind you I don't think I could face going back for another three years to university.

Though I do miss some bits

All very true. In fact I found the first year of degree almost the same as my A Level. A few of my 1st year uni assignments were just slight re-works of A level assignments.
