iPod/MP3 Tricks?

Postby .:Ham:. » Dec 20th, '07, 01:59

Hey,

Magic and mentalism is moving into a new technological era and I think our magic should say that. I'm looking for mentalism effects that have something to do with iPods or MP3 devices. Some ideas that I have are predicting certain songs on the person's device and reading off the belonger's information in the device.

Thanks in advance!

I've been thinking about this for a while. The best I came up with is vanishing someone's iPod with a raven. Pitty it deleted every song on his iPod though

I heard that our local health club had a new magician using new technology. Apparently he made 5 ipods dissapear from the changing rooms on a saturday afternoon. (sad but true) It would be more impressive if he could now make them reappear.!

I never thought I would here myself say this, but...

On youtube there is a great magician (Who NEVER EXPOSES - hence why he is good :)) called MadV, he does a vanish with an iPod, but Im not sure if it is with the raven or not, check it out (I cant find the link, but if you search for madV, you'll see him)

Let us know how it goes...

Dan

Extra thought...maybe a certain song, could reveal their card...(just a really random through)...motorhead, the ace of spades maybe, lol

i have to say, the second I wrote it, I though, actually, that would be an ace (no pun intended) idea, so, iv been working on a force the ace then lay a song on my mp3 player (which is 'the ace of spades' by motorhead). It should be quite cool, only thing is...im rubbish at forcing cards, lol (well, very bad at doing the classic force, its coming, but atm I can only force a suit, or withing a few cards...practice makes perfect though :) )

I think everyone should check out MixTape by Alvo Stockman. It uses a cd instead of an iPod. You hand out a cd and have a casual conversation about music. You have them name some of their favorite songs. When they get home and play the cd it has all the songs they mentioned already on it.

Sweet! Thanks for the advice! It doesn't have to do with iPods, but that certainly does sound awesome!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Street Magic just came out a few months ago (October, if I recall correctly) and has a section on "technotrickery" involving tricks with ipods (and their cords), cell phones, and digital cameras.

Never gave it a close enough look for a review, but if you're in no hurry I could get to it sometime during the holiday.

Can you breifly type up a few effects from it?

When I purchased From Hell v.2 from Lebanon Circle, I also received a 50-page PDF document called The Spirit Cell; it gives step-by-step instructions on how to construct a gimmicked mobile phone that enables you to perform some seriously impressive ESP-related effects. However, quite a lot of work is involved in making this gimmick which is one reason I have not yet done it. Perhaps one day I will get round to it. (It involves the use of a soldering iron and other parts that must be purchased beforehand - not a quick thing by any means, but apparently worth it!)

Techonotrickery section includes:
    - Your Standard mind-reading (cell)phone psychic
    - Using a cell phone camera to take a picture of a blank piece of paper, the spectator selects a symbol, the picture on the phone has changed to that symbol
    - A spectator is asked to open her cellphone, you "capture" a beam of light from the screen - which transforms into a miniture boquet of flowers
    - iPod earbud production
    - Cut and restored earbuds
    - Nano iPod vanish (does not leave you as clean as the version in the video - but would be suitable for a vanish and return)
    - iPod Vanish (not visual)
    - Mindreading iPod: a list of songs is shown to the spectator, they select one which is found to be playing on the iPod
    - A CD or DVD is strung onto a rope and removed without damage to the rope.

This is a Idiots Guide book and most of the effects are basic/beginner. Just from typing this list up it seems most of the effects listed above use techniques you'd find in many beginning magic books (Mark Wilson) adapted to technology.

I haven't read through them enough to know how pratical or worth-while they are. There seems to be some interest so I'll get a review up sometime this holiday.

Which one? I can PM you a review of that trick and not bother with the book review until I actually get the time.

No offense meant, but for sake of clarity I won't be revealing the trick - I just offer a review of the effect and its practicality. Given forum rules, I hope you understand the need for me to state this.

Oh no, I don't want exposure, but a review of the Mindreading iPod may help.
