Hi Folks
I'm fairly new to talk magic (i.e. registered ages ago and only posted 1 or 2 messages)
I hope this is the right place to post this item.
I'd like to share a routine I've devised using a couple of stand alone tricks bought at Blackpool last year.
The first is a brass box and five brass discs of different face colours. The idea is that a volounteer keeps hold of one disc and places the other four in the screw top brass box (which only holds four discs) the magician then correctly identifies the colour of the disc held by the volounteer.
Not bad but then no great shakes either.
The second item was also a brass tube sealed at both ends which comes apart in the middle, and five brass discs of different face colours. Each disc has a hole in the middle. Each end of the tube has a small hole in it. A vlounteer names any one of the coloured discs. The magician then puts all five discs in the tube and seals it. He passes a needle and ribon through the tube and discs and the volounteer holds both ends of the ribon, thus trapping the discs in the tube. Under cover of a silk the magician then removes the chosen disc from the tube and the ribon. Pretty neat.
Now for the new routine "Finally" I hear you moan.
I start with the first brass box and discs. I ask the volounteer to choose any disc but I ask him to do it with the discs upside down so even he doesn't know what colour he has selected. I get him to cover this disc with a glass. He then puts the remaining four discs in the box ( without looking at the colours) and seals it.
using the original method I find the identity of the disc under the glass but don't reveal it. instead I say "sorry I forgot, I have to write a note" On a small piece of paper I write the colour of the disc under the glass, fold it, and place it under a second glass.
I then move to the second set of discs and tube. (when I bought them my colours differed from the discs in the first trick so I had to do a little bit of painting) I don't have a disc selected, I just show them , show the tube and then place the discs inside. I then carry on with the trick threading the ribon etc.
When I manage to make one disc penetrate ribon and tube I lightheartedly ask for some applause.
Then I say "wouldn't it be a coincidence if this disc was the same colour as the first disc that has been sat under the glass" ( which it is) I again remark that this deserves some applause.
Then I say "And wouldn't it be fantastic if I knew all along what that colour would be" whereupon I unfold the slip of paper and show the same colour written down. No need to ask for applause this time.
Two simple fairly OK tricks turned into a baffling three stage routine.
I hope you like this ( sorry I dont know the names of the original tricks)
I hope I posted it in the right place.
see you at Blackpool if you're going.
Cheers
