Power Pickpocket (by Goshman)

Postby ArcticBanana » Jan 8th, '08, 03:02

I have seen this a few times in my perusing though spongeball paraphernalia, and my curiosity has finally gotten to me.

"This gimmick will allow you to instantly remove a spectators wallet and replace it again without detection! Your audience will believe you are a master pickpocket!"

Does anyone know what this is, or has ever used one?

is it at all practical? and does it serve any purpose if you are capable of lifting someone's wallet without the gimmick?

I don't have it, personally, but I'll give you some thoughts...

It's got both Tom Burgoon's and Goshman's name on it, so I reckon that has to stand for something. Burgoon is an excellent magician and his "Tommy Toilet Paper" is one of the most ripped off routines in the industry.

The product is selling for a tenner...I reckon it's worth a look for a mere ten dollar bill.

That said, anything that claims to make you a master anything is highly suspect. I learned early on when I bought a card catcher out of a Johnson's catalogue when I was around 10 years old. While I waited for the gizmo to arrive by mail, I was imagining just how cool it was going to be to produce cards from the air with this invisible gizmo.

It arrived. To this day, I have almost all the magic equipment that I had from my childhood...Even a couple of poorly made gimmicks that I made myself following the description given in my books are still with me (useless things, but I cannot bring myself to can them). But, I don't have that card catcher anymore. It was my first useless purchase and it was below useless.

And, therein I learned a lesson.

Still, for a tenner...

Mike.

From the site:

"The Effect

This gimmick will allow you to instantly remove a spectators wallet and replace it again without detection! Your audience will believe you are a master pickpocket!

Sold for Entertainment Purposes Only "

That is very, very misleading. The "Sold for Entertainment Purposes Only" line is not some legal disclaimer but part of the sales pitch. Without giving it away, you create the illusion of taking/inspecting/replacing the wallet of a person. The effect is for everyone but the person you are "stealing" from. If you do not keep him distracted the entire time then your cover will be blown... and not in a "Hey, what are you doing with my wallet?" way either.

So you own it?

I think I see what your saying, does this mean that the gimmick couldn't be used for anything more than a gag?

Is it worth $10?

No but I have seen it demonstrated.

You can use it to EDITED.

Is it worth $10?
IMO, it could fit nicely into a EDITED routine.

Also worth noting is that this is not a close-up item.
