The Dark Knight

Postby Farlsborough » Jan 15th, '08, 19:21

Just seen an advert for the next Batman film with Bale, "The Dark Knight". I for one loved Batman Begins - thought it was a return to the gritty, brooding Batman rather than cartoon silliness. And Cillian Murphy was an excellent villain.

But I've just seen the person they've got lined up as The Joker...

Heath Ledger! Come on! Medieval peasant boy makes good - fine. Casanova - fine. Gay cowboy - sure, whatever. But surely not The Joker! Has he honestly proven himself worthy to play one of the most twisted, insane, charming yet sadistic villians of superhero history?! What was Willem Dafoe so busy doing when they auditioned?!

Discuss :)

dont see why he can't erm...pull it off matron..

always thought richard e. grant should of played the joker if he could do a decent accent...

i think mr. bale is a mighty fine actor though, glad he got the job, great in hard times and the machinist...

yeah, lets see what the new joker can do...its gotta be better than jack nicholson doing it...since when was the joker a modestly overweight non-shrill mobster eh eh eh eh? just cos he had the smile halfway there anyway...

still, thank god they didnt go for christian "i'll never be jack nicholson" slater...

or steven hawking!

DC comics were moderately average too...Mine Mine Marvel!

opened a can of worms there farlsey...

Well, I'm with you there Abraxus... I still have the Marvel Annuals my Dad got for me from some vintage shop... the earliest one is 1964 which is pretty cool, it's got Thor on the front and I think also "old-style" Iron Man, with a big dome head!

I just think Heath is too much of a pretty boy for the job :? I can't imagine people being scared of him.

i have some a3 marvel books that my dad got when he was in the navy...superman vs spiderman, and a great fantatic four one, done by Kirby...

if they ever make a film version of The Avengers, they better do it right or i'll hunt them down with Black Bolt and make him speak...

if you want a giggle, google the marvel character Deathlok, and then Samuel L Jackson...

My favourite Batman is, and always will be, Adam West. Shark repellent and all.

POW! BAM!

With you all the way there Mr. A.

Remember FOOM (Friends of Ol' Marvel)? I was a member! I was too cool for school!

Anyway, watch out. Lord Freddie will be along in a moment telling us all that Beano and the Dandy were better than Strange Tales and SpiderMan.

yeah...he'll remind us when george formby and benny hill took on the mekon in a saucy threesome...

i committed sacriledge as a kid, cutting up my marvel comics to keep the stamps they used to print in the early 70s ones...

wish they'd made a proper adult version (not in the electric blue sense) of the silver surfer...made him more of a wondering nomad/zen buddhist type that he always came across as...

the vision was always one of my faves...and of course, as we've discussed before mate, dr. strange...

i only bought the xbox 360 game cos i knew doc strange was in it...they did his voice exactly as how i imagined it...quality...

Yeah, wasn't he constructed using the DNA of Wonder Man (an old Golden Age guy)? He always quite freaked me out - very cold and logical and totally unopen to negotiation. If he wanted to do something nothing would get in his way.

I really get a kick these days from old 1940's and 1950's comics. Got a really classy compilation of Tales From the Crypt from the 1950's - wonderful. I also enjoy WW2 comics where superheroes such as Cap. America, the (Original) Torch and the Sub-Mariner kick Nazi ass. "Take that Fritz!" "Gott in Himmell! Eet iz ze Americans Dogs!"

Talking of the original Torch - he has something to do with the Vision as well I remember. The original Torch was an android I think and parts of him were used to construct the Vision. Ow - my brain hurts from remembering too much.

yeah, thats it! i'd forgotten about the wonderman link...

he could change his atomic structure couldnt he...diamond one minute, immaterial the next...for some strange reason, i have the image of him walking half way through a lion and then turning his structure to steel or diamond or something...

such a bizarre image...

i keep hearing they're going to make black panther, and luke cage and iron fist movies...

Iron Fist & Power Man! How 1970's is that? Totally brilliant. I started taking karate lessons in the 1970's thanks to Iron Fist. I went for a few weeks then got beaten up by a black belt and stopped going. It was easier to read the comics!

An Iron Fist & Power Man movie would be great if it had the right director. It needs to be tongue-in-cheek in parts, totally action packed, with just the right amount of cheese. I reckon Quentin Tarantino would do it justice.

I'm no Heath Ledger fan but he does look quite creepy in that trailer LeftEye posted - not his usual pretty boy self at all. I'm really looking forward to this as Batman Begins was easily the best Batman film to date.
