Desert Island Discs

Postby TheAlkhemist07 » Jan 24th, '08, 13:24

Thought we could all play a little game called desert island discs (Its a show on BBC R4).

Here are the rules:
"Guests are invited to imagine themselves as castaways on a desert island, and asked to choose the eight pieces of music they would take with them; discussion of their choices permits a review of their life. Aside from the music they select, they are also permitted to take one book, excluding the Bible or other religious work and the complete works of Shakespeare, which are deemed to be already present on the island (probably to force castaways to make more original and interesting choices). They also choose one luxury item which must be inanimate and of no survival value, though large supplies of champagne seem to be allowed"

Music:
1. "Wake up" - RATM
2. "Adieu" - Enter Shikari
3. "Blood Sugar" - Pendulum
4. "The Illness" - Kid606
5. ""Hunting for Witches" - Bloc Party
6. "symphony No 2" - Philip Glass
7. "Get Low" - Lil Jon
8. "57" - Biffy Clyro

Book:
A terry Pratchett novel preferably a Rincewind story although I would not want to pick a singular 1.

Luxury Item:
Walkers sensatiuons Thai sweet chili crisps.

Reading: Walton Vol 1, ECT and MCM DVD
Practising: ECT, "Its a set-up", "the smiley Mule"
Performing: I.D. , Pass At Red, Profs Nightmare, Extraction of Silver
My name is 'Chris Peacock'

I think rather than think of just "your faves", it would be a good idea (if the situation really arose!) to think of tracks that described a wide range of feelings, so you had something to listen to whatever mood you were in, or so that listening to all eight would be a real emotional rollercoaster.

1) Arvo Part - De Profundis
2) Big Black - Kerosene
3) Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lookin' Out my Back Door
4) Alison Krauss & Gillian Welch - I'll Fly Away
5) Sigur Ros - Sven-g-Englar
6) Johnny Cash - The Man Comes Around
7) Regina Spektor - Samson
8) Franco Battiato - Ruby Tuesday

Book: Stone Junction by Jim Dodge, if I could also take my own Bible with integral commentary/annotation. I can understand why they eliminate holy books, but The Bible would actually be a really good choice even for non-Christians. It's got epic battles and impossible triumphs, comedy and tragedy, supernatural occurrences, erotic poetry and inspirational songs, abstract and "far out" visions and dreams... It would keep you thinking for the rest of your life, if the worst came to the worst.

Luxury - guitar... with spare strings!

Excellent track - it'd possibly be on mine if I didn't think it'd make me too sad to be without my significant other!

Also, make up bag...? If I stumbled across a girl who was stranded on a beach and there was the possibility of romance, i'd rather she had chosen a razor or a big box of waxing strips than a bit of lippy...

Well, I think we can all agree on one thing...

Only smooth skinned, naturally beautiful and domestically tamed women on the island. Fair?
