Hello there!

Postby beetlejuiceecis » Feb 2nd, '08, 15:32

Hi my name is Eoin, I'm 16 and, of course, I love magic! I started thanks to my Dad who works as a magician and it kind of all stemmed from there. I've performed a few live shows - biggest audience so far has been 100 (not bad for my first show!). Still learning a lot of the basics of magic, but so far I'm leaning more towards mentalism and general stage magic. I actively seek to create new effects that are my own as I believe that this is how magic evolves and becomes better. Oh yeah, and I'm a member of the YMC. I think that's it - any questions? Shoot!

Hi and welcome to TM  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Just got done watching a couple of your videos...That's not something I do often, being that I'm an old dinosaur (that may be a redundant thing to say) I'm still on a 56k.

So, naturally, I just have to ask, who's your dad? A name I might have heard? The reason I ask is because you show a respect for magic more than I'm used to seeing at your age (to anyone reading the statement on age: please don't take that in a derogatory sense even though it may be hard not to do so).

In critical mode: you need to make your movements ever so slightly more natural - you have a bit of a cramped look with the bottle cap chink-a-chink and it could stand to have some patter, even if to only explain that you are transposing caps from one place to another. But, it simply is not a silent type effect (at least, not as presented).

Another question: Is your partner (the guy holding up the cover for the open field appearance) a magician or just a buddy of yours helping you out? I ask this because there are few duo magician acts. Just curiosity, you see.

Anyway, you show an exceptional aptitude for magic and have talent. Welcome to the boards.

Mike.

Well, I have to say that I am actually the guy holding the paper and performing the Professor's Nightmare!!! The other guy - Mark - is also a magician, yes :P

To answer your question, my Dad's name is ivor Smith - he is part of a magic company called Fifth Dimension

Well, first off, my apologies...I feel pretty stupid now!

I watched The Professor's Nightmare and, well, I've got no criticisms on that one. Well done - smooth, deceptive count, good spin around and finish. Very nice.

I also watched the "live at Aberdeen" clip. Very enjoyable to see two magicians working together. How long have you two been getting up in front of audiences? I also must say that I thoroughly appreciated seeing that classics of magic are not lost on you guys ("The Great Coat Escape," as it is dubbed by Wilson). Good stuff!

Only criticism is that you need a bit more stage presence/showmanship and you need to project your voice a bit stronger. Other than that, I stand by my comments above in that it is refreshing to see young men, such as yourselves, who are treating magic with the respect that it deserves. Thank you. :P

Unfortunately, I've not heard of your father, but I did enjoy looking through his site. It's easy to see, from my point of view at least, that you are following right along in his foot steps. He must be very proud!

Thanks :D Don't feel stupid, I don't really care!

In response to your views about the live clip - thanks. It was our first live show together and was in a very small venue (audience of about 25 people) so the projection may not have been great. It also may be something to do with the fact it was filmed with a terrible digital camera!!! So yeah, first time live together.
