Rising Card NOT Rising, Help!

Postby deanos123 » Feb 9th, '08, 08:55

I was just wondering if anybody has had a problem with the card rising from the deck? Mine doesn't seem to do it very freely and i seem to have to give it a little shake to get it moving?

Does anybody have any tips on how to maybe make the cards or gimmick more slidey?

Its a bit annoying when you get the spec to hold the deck and nothing happens!

by the way, i have seen a GHOST DECK which is a rising card deck.

Has anybody used this deck for the rising card trick? and do you think it attracts more suspision to the gimmicked deck or do you think it adds more to the effect?

I have never used this deck to perform this trick, but i would imagine it would raise EVEN MORE suspision that the trick is in the deck itself (which it is) you may as well have advertised on the box that the deck is not what it seems. At least with a standard Bicycle deck it looks more normal.

Agreed. I think you're always better doing this with a borrowed deck in good condition if one is available, just to remove any suspicion. That said, if you handle the cards correctly in the first place, they shouldn't have any suspicions anyway.

I use the Box Monster for the Ghost Deck, the gimmick works better there (can't explain further due to exposure). For those who have it, you know what I mean.

I have one with the p****y which buggered up after a bit of practice and no fiddling around with it seems to get it working again.

With careful hand and a touch of talc, the system that m'Lord is talking about can be "slipperied" up. That would be less than (or maybe even equal to) a pinch of talc, you understand.

If you've got the nerve, there's nothing better than finely ground graphite so make things smooth as silk.

ah, talc you say?

where abouts do you put the talc? do you mean on the gimmick itself? or the deck of cards?

PM me if you like.

Same here. I've tried to take it apart but fear I'd make the situation worse. It cost me nothing though, so I may as well have a dabble.

but i think he is talking about putting talc on the face of the cards so that there is less resistance and they slide more easily, this way the gimmick works better.

Just to make sure...We're talking about the Devano rising deck, correct? Well, that's the one I'm talking about!

Don't treat the cards themselves - that's not what I'm talking about...And, you certainly don't want to put graphite on your cards.

I can't speak for the decks that you guys have, but mine came with detailed instruction as to how the gimmick was put together. Wow...This is very difficult to explain without exposing the gimmick...

But, yes, you have to put the talc or graphite on the gimmick because it needs to have some slip to it in order to smoothly do its job.

Mike.

I think mine is the same system, Mike, but sadly didn't come with detailed instructions! I'll give it a go. It's been discarded into the 'spare cards' box at the moment and I have been using David Acer's impromptu vertical rising card since.

Not sure of the Devano although it sounds so familiar. The Arne however I have always found touchy and just working the gimmick usually loosens it up, also a little of that talc on the gimmick so to speak also helps. make sure that the gimmick does not get caught up in anything along the way.

I like the rising card that McBride put out some time ago. Kundalini rising or something to that effect. Borrowed deck, Spectator can hold the deck while the card rises. But it is not for everyone.

It is interesting I'm not a huge fan of Paul Daniels but I reference him a lot. Perhaps I'm a closet fan. He did a great Rising card routine in a wine glass. I remember it being a series of cards and even knowing different methods he still had me puzzling over it for quite a while, and of course it was just his handling.
