Restaurant Work and Age

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » Feb 11th, '08, 23:34

I want to start table hopping at restaurants. Is there an age requirement due to insurance, I'm in my teen years. Just looking for help. Thanks! :D

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I'm not sure but perhaps most restaurants wouldn't take you on unless you were 18 due to licensing laws? Not sure.

check with the individual resturant wether you are coverd by there public liability or wether you have to carry your own, also there own age restrictions as some have alcohol liecenses.
basicly if there happy for you to work for them then your ok, just amke sure you get signed recipts for all your incomings and outgoings wilst working for mr taxman.

The age restrictions that apply to an alcohol licence only apply to those who are serving/selling it. if you are ever in a supermnarket and are buying a bottle you'll not that the under 18 till assistants have to call a supervisor to authorise any alcohol through the checkout.

This shouldn't therefore affect you and it may well be down to the personal preferences of the restaurant as to whether they will hire you or not.

Insurance may be the hanging point as many a restaurant may not have cover you, possibly due to age on this one so you may have to get your own as the restaurant won't be willing to pay the hike in an insurance premium. Don't be willing to perform without insurance as with you being under 18 if the worst came to the worst then your liability will most probably pass to your parents.

Its rare that a restaurant will have public Liability insurance to cover under 18's if any at all for entertainers, unless its a venue that regularly hosts live acts.

It may be very hard to get your own policy, but perhaps look at joining Equity as you get PLS as part of the membership
