Wow this is weird! Mrs.M bought me a nice brushed silver pocket watch on Saturday! Birmingham's Jewelley quarter was where we went looking as most of the City Centre shops don't do them and the few that do seem to charge arms and legs.

....how weird

I actually bought a pocket watch last week too

I was thinking of the kind of effects that can be done using one and apart from the obvious watch stop I suppose you could store a folded up note or card inside the lid that pops open (if it has one)

Dammit theres me thinking i was being original lol.......

But I was thinking that the playing card was the back graphic on the actual watch face?

I remembered this magazine from ages ago, one of the collect one a month types where the first one is dirt cheap and the others are a rip.
Anyway, couldnt find it anywhere but here:

Whilst rummaging through his waistcoat (US = vest) pockets, the magish removes a pocket watch and casually places it on the table whilst fumbling for keys, a pencil, anything at all really - all down to the individual. Something like a raffle ticket or other small billet sized item is selected by the spec and signed. It's then folded into a small packet, wrapped in, er, tissue paper. The performer produces a lighter, sets fire to the packet and it's gone in a flash. Whilst eyes are adjusting to this sudden luminescence, the magish takes the watch from the table, pops open the cover (yes, it has one!) and inside is a folded ticket. The watch is turned over so the ticket drops into the specs hand, the watch is put away and the spec opens the ticket to find, lo and behold, it's his signed ticket.

my brother has a nice one of these, and i've thought of getting one for a while. if carried in lower waistcoat pocket, a signed m*****y f**d*d card could easily be revealed having imposssibly travelled inside your watch.

not far off ctw....oh, hang on that works too :D

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh

I've never been able to stand wrist watches so I carry a pocket watch as part of my everday pocket-stuff. Clipping it to a belt loop and slipping into a pocket works fine for everday use.

Beyond the above, I've thought of maybe using it as a pendulum. Though, I haven't come across any suitable tricks and haven't had the time to go searching especially for it.

My pocket watch has a clear window on the front of the case that allows the time to be read through the front of the case (or it can be opened) - I've always toyed with the idea of having it shown appearing empty, then having the predicition appear within but haven't found a suitable method.

You could 'write' something like 8D or the last few digits of a banknote serial number on the glass using a 'suitable' substance so that when you breathe on it or hold it over a hot beverage, the glass steams up but leaves your 'prediction' standing out clear.
