I don't own the trick so I don't know much about it.
I am pretty sure, judging by other performances I have seen and the name of the effect itself that it can be done without taking the cap off before you do it. I would not take the cap off as it gives people the idea that you could be slipping a coin in at that point. If you want them to see the bottom of the cap just let them look at the side at an angle.
Instead of music why not have some patter? You are not the only one with a video of this effect on youtube, but if you are engaging you might be able to stand out with it.
