hi all (who knew magic was this much fun?)

Hello everyone...
As a 30' something (quite a big something..sigh..) firefighter with way too much time on my hands I decided just before xmas that I needed a hobby!! Always been fascinated by sleights of hand and decided to apply myself aided and abetted by a copy of Bobo's Coin Magic. One thing has led to another and I now have drawer fulls of packet tricks, books, dvd's etc... and absolutely no quality control!! Currently enjoying some success in card backpalming, ball manipulations and the occasional muscle pass (am I the only one who's coin flies sideways instead of up?!?). Really looking forward to entertaining the hordes of schoolkids who visit the fire station most weeks.
Oh and I used to work in films/tv as a special fx guy... but that seems like cheating now compared to real magic! (if anyone wants a decent fake blood recipe or other such nonsense let me know!!)

Sorry, couldn't resist

Hello and welcome to the forums! It's always good to see people getting into magic at any age and it looks like you've got an excellent fist book as a cornerstone to build from (Bobo is somewhat of a bible in magic terms!).

As for the "drawer full of packet tricks with no quality control" I think we all have some of that to a greater or lesser degree (it's called CUPS here)so hopefully you can learn from other people's experiences and avoid some of the 'poorer quality' effects out there.

I hope you find the people here are generally pretty helpful and will offer you advice and guidance if you ask (no secrets though).

Enjoy your time here!

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Oh dear.... can't believe I actually wrote "having some success with ball manipulation" without realising.. (what was I thinking!) sigh... Never type anything after midnight, it'll only come back to haunt you...

Thanks for the kind words of welcome and helpful tips... it's nice to be amongst people who aren't saying "You've spent how much on magic tricks this month?!? Are you out of your mi...!!"

Great scott!!! Another of the Flashman clan on TM, I do hope that you aren't part of Elspeth's ghastly entourage (hailing from Glasgow and all that).

If I were you I'd pull up a native, take a seat by the fire and take the weight off your whiskers... By the way, don't play whist do you old bean? I'm afraid that I'm a bit of a boob when it comes to games of chance, don't 'spose you'd fancy a quick hand while we wait, only the smallest cash amounts involved, just to pass the time of day you understand...

Oh yes, by the way... Welcome to TM old man!
