Passionate About Magic!

Postby Sheridan » Feb 23rd, '08, 00:58

Hey Guys, :D

My name is Sheridan and I've been a professional entertainer all my life. I started out as an actor and singer and now work full-time as a vocal coach training singers and performers for the profession. I have always been passionate about magic, but it has always remained a hobby.. Although proficient in a few sleights, I guess my strength would really lie with presentation and a desire to mystify. I am particularly fond of close-up magic and the slightly macabre or unusual. I recently purchased 'Finger Flinger', the finger guillotine that appears to really cut your finger off!! I love it - serious reverse psycology.. I grew up in the era when Paul Daniels was main man - MASSIVE respect Paul.. I have to say that I find Derren Brown's approach today very refreshing, although I'd love to see more traditional 'Daniels' style magic back on our TV screens. I live in Buckingham and would love to join a local magic society but alas don't know where to start... :( I am close to places like Milton Keynes, Oxford, Northampton, Bicester and of course Buckingham. Any ideas anyone.. I don't know any magicians and would love to get to know some of you!

Warmest wishes to you all,

Sheridan :D

Welcome!! And yes, I too would love to see some wholesome, family-orientated, studio-based magic-tomfoolery back on our screens!

Hello and Welcome,

I know exactly what you mean about the lack of magic on TV!

Anyways here is a link to a list of magic societies in the South East of England (Hosted on the excellent Ipswitch Magic Society website) and there are a couple look to be in and around your area so you should be able to find one fairly close to you.

Welcome agian and I hope you enjoy your time here

Hey Guys,

Thank you for the warm reception... Maybe this could be just the link with magic I have been looking for. Thank you Whalemeister for the list of magic societies, already proving most helpful.

How was Blackpool? To be honest I was all set to go, but family commitments came first...

I have just ordered Geoffrey Durham's book.. Looking forward to getting my hands on that one..

Although an experienced professional entertainer (as a compere, singer & actor) and a lifelong devotee of magic, I feel like a relative beginner compared to many of you? I have a collection of magic books, including most of the standard references. If you were encouraging an enthusiastic beginner in sleight-of-hand, which books would any of you recommend as a starter?.. I'd be keen to know..

Thanks again for your welcoming comments!
