OK, here's my question

I've got two invisible decks, bought from different companies, and they both handle totally differently. I was wondering if this is a common thing or whether one is possibly defective or badly prepared.

One is great, so easy to ribbon-spread, so easy to use, but the other is just terrible. Is this a common problem with pre-made ones? It seems dodgy if you have to take a gamble as to whether it will be prepared as you like it or not whenever you buy a replacement... Especially since any replacement, if it turns out to be "prepared" to a different roughness (I'm trying not to give anything away here) will mean you'll have to re-learn the best handling technique for that deck

This is a very common problem with some brands. Given the application of "the stuff" in question - there can be a wide array of differences from one deck to the next. Generally, in my experience, bicycle versions have been the best for me. I've had a few Royal decks - and the finish of the cards (not cushioned like bikes) and spotty application of the stuff made them difficult to use.

Are the decks the same brand of cards?

You can of course 're-magic' the decks in question. I have only ever owned two IDs and I have always found it sufficient just to re-magic them every so often.
You know, when the magic wears off.

I've always made my own. Two decks makes one ID, one brainwave, and you can put on as much "magic" as you like. (PM me for details)

I'm with Farlsborough in making your own.

It may take some time but you can invisible any deck you want to instead of just the reds and blues.

Yep. They're both blue backed Bikes. The poor one is from E and the good one is from MagicBox.

Thanks for the suggestions about making one myself. If you want something done right then do it yourself, hehe. I might just take you up on that PM offer, Farlsborough, because I wouldn't know where to start.

Hehe i got an ID from magicbox,and let me tell you that ya almost need a knife to seperate the cards theyre so well made.I had to break them in myself by rubbing each one,took me a while too

I've bought 3 IDs all from the same supplier and every one of them was slightly different. They usually do need a little breaking in to get them to handle as you want them too.

I've thought about making my own but never gotten around to it.

This is a common problem and i normally make my own deck.

I would. It's only a ten minute job and the quality is there.

I got a good PM from Farlsborough about making my own. I'll let people know how it goes if I attempt it

I've always found the cards from Hains work very well. I just have to re arrange mine because I have my own system if you know what I mean. I am not a fan of numbers especially when the pressure is on so I took that element out. And no I don't have to memorize anything either. I almost feel guilty performing the effect the way I do as I've taken all the work out of it...and there is not much to begin with.

Now where's the fun in that, it's much more enjoyable I find to do it in a small room with all doors and windows closed.

I can then get the little pixies to help me put it all together again.

Laughs. I'm getting to old for that. Admittedly it is kind of fun during the process. But not worth the headache after.

These days I get exactly that same kind of giddy rush just by standing up quickly.....

Anyways, back to the plot. Apparently the big secret is to let the 'magic stuff' dry properly. Leave it over night and then leave it some more. After a few more hours, leave it a few more hours. I guess the point is that it must be thorougly dry before using the cards. The key word is 'patience' which, by a happy co-incidence, is the name of a card game. In the UK anyway.
