Jugs

Postby SharkTrager » Dec 18th, '03, 12:51

One of the first trick that ever mesmorised me waas not linking rings or sawing females into bits - it was Paul Daniels doing a trick with a jug where the audience named a drink and Daniels poured that drink out of it.

To me that was the best magic ever and it still seems pretty brilliant. A friend of mine who was a magician way before I was, once bought this for big big bucks but I never got to see it. And now how I long to.

Does anyone know it's official name and who remembers seeing it on TV?

Howdy m8ty.
I remember seeing the trick! I was amazed like you were.
How did he, did he just, what the etc.
I miss seing magic from younger eyes, a price we pay for learning I guess.
I had and still have so much respect for Sir Paul of Daniels, when you look at the sheer number of effects he had to know just to cover his many TV series and then perform them well, hats off to the man.
Though I have to say some of that shows finest moments were from his unusual guests he used to have on!
The bald guy with the blindfold and crossbow with a nervous looking assistant, quality.

Anyway..
I have no idea what the trick is called I am afraid, hope you find it...

Not sure about the Jugs :) - but there was a thread about a magic kettle that sounds like it had similar attributes.

It was probably the one called 'Any Drink Called For' and was a most impresive routine. Paul did this with a jug and also a with a nice shiny chrome kettle. (I have an enamelled kettle version but haven't used it much lately!)

there was also a version of this on "monkey magic" where the guy was supposedly milking a cow and the "milk" came out in red wine, orange juice, grapefruit juice and vodka and orange i think?!??!

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Ah the old under utilised "CowTip" gimmick. You just don't see that much anymore :( . You just slip it on your thumb and it looks exactly like a cow (or was that Bull?).

on a sub note the bald guy was called hans marettie (phonetic spellimg), he was genuinely mad.

tea kettle / jugs sort of lotta bowl meets production box, with water to wine thrown in for good measure a lovely piece of equipment and a must have for prop merchants like me, shame i cant afford one yet but other things like life have to take president.

also consider magic coctail shaker http://www.show-bizcentre.co.uk £69.

http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/Tea_Kettle_Mak.html source for tea kettle though could not find it in search so maybe unavalable at this time.
ps is unavalable at present.

Yes Any Drink called For seems to be the one.

People were calling out Tea, and then drinking tea poured from the jug, Orange Juice, and then drinking orange juice poured from the jug...I just wanted to be there and call out Tizer or something.

Yes actually I totally admire Paul Daniels (not a lot). You're right BaB, he just knew how to do absolutely everything. And when you watched him you took it for granted because when you watch a magician you just expect him to be able to do anything. It's quite cool to knock Mr Daniels but the only thing he did wrong was having a little too much time on TV and have a confident personality which people don't like.

So Mandrake, you've got a kettle version. Does it do Tizer?

Of course it can do Tizer (and Irn Bru!) - mine does anything you like, dear sir, it's a Magic kettle!!

I agree with you about Paul Daniels, he's a very cocksure type but that's his South Bank, Middlesbrough background coming out - I lived there for a while and they're good folks and of very similar nature. Paul also has a mind of his own and some strong opinions which don't match with other thinking - not Politically Correct type of thing. He has strong anti religion opinions (which I don't agree with by any means) which upset some folks but he only offers those opinions when asked so, if you think you won't like the answer, don't ask the question!

Yes, he had a lot of exposure and the BBC were so grateful for his being the anchor point of their schedules and specials for many years that, for no adequately explained reason, they dropped him like a hot potato - just like that! The same thing happened to Benny Hill for possibly similar non-reasons.

I think Paul is having the last laugh though, his masterclasses are a sell-out, his personal appearances are always well over subscribed and he's still practicing the art he loves - Magic. Can't be bad! (And I haven't mentioned Debbie McGee once - apart from just now!)

Something to remember that you have to do a new trick or bunch of tricks every show you cant just perform your favourate six tricks each show, add to that the time to practise and you would think he'd be crasy to do so many shows.

i heard he was taken off the air because of familiarity which roughly translated meens that being on air so often ment that he was being taken for granted, that an the fact that debbie we love her magiee was begining her balet / play thingy which was taking increasingly more of there joint time.

but we digrese from the subject, both the tricks mentioned are practicaly the same and follow the same principles as i have previously mentioned its a colection of effects moulded into one item which i like a lot.
like useing a ghost tube with a square circle set up for and extra load

I saw this performed but the magician used a carton, riped and gave it out at the end. Is there a different name for this one and where can i get it?

I think the carton idea is just a variation on the same basic theme so isn't perhaps an item which can be bought anywhere. (Having said that, I guess someone will now post the detailed links to 87 different sources!
