Left handed people are considered to be more creative. Us lefties should think ourselves lucky.
(That's lefties in the positive sense!)

Actually, although I'm left-handed, I think I may be slightly ambidextrous as I use scissors right-handed, I have a right-handed golf swing and... er, do... other... things... right-handed.

Interesting you mention that. One of my biggest heroes and inspirations, Bill Malone, does a similar thing whenever he performs his famous "cards from mouth" effect. He explains on one of his DVDs that, although he is left handed, he is only comfortable with the move done right handed, so whenever he performs it, he has to seamlessly switch to a right handed mechanics grip (ie, cards held in his left). Look out for that next time you see him in action!

When I'm reading palms I always tell left handed people that they are naturally more creative, intuitive, and more likely to be psychic than right handed people. It is apparently true (according to palmist lore that is), and always seems to please the lefties. They smile at me knowingly and say "Yes, it's true."

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous...

It's odd, im ambidexterous, and it's rather irritating with card magic. I perform half the slights with my right and the other with the left. It's okay, but can be awkward and get in a muddle. Im slightly stronger with my left though.

I'm also left handed, but for some ungodly reason my right pinky is the most dextrous of all my fingers (my left pinky is terribly envious!!). Using scissors to cut anything, apart from fresh air, is a cruel and unnatural torture.

Actually the worst thing about being a lefty was not being able to find a left handed cowboy holster for my cap gun when I was a lad... Growing up losing every quick draw shootout has left me with a seething rage and a bitter, twisted view of humanity....

Have a nice day y'all

I've got a rather strange thing when I do rope magic, I'm right handed but do all the moves laft handed. I think the reason is that I started off learning ropes from a couple of DVDs and when I learn from a DVD I tend to mirror the instructor. So if they dom something with the right hand, I'll do it with the left. So I learnt all my rope moves, left handed. Makes doing anything from a book a total nightmare.

Haha, Lommy, I think I've got a similar problem to you. Certain moves just feel nicer being done in a certain hand.

I'm actually right-handed, but I wear my watch on my right hand coz my right hand can't put the watch on! I also used to wear my belt the other way round until my dad told me to change it

Oh well just do whatever feels best to you, as long as it looks natural, feels good and is consistent, doesn't interrupt the flow of your magic etc.

I know it may sound a bit extreme but if you've got to switch hands to do a certain move, just re-learn the move with the other hand so your magic flows. It's worth it.

Flashman,

I know the problem. 30yrs ago I made my own left handed rig to be able to compete in the British Fast Draw Championships.

Nowadays, thanks to Ebay I have a lovely hand tooled left handed rig made by Colt. It hangs on the wall in my den.

As for magic, being left handed was the reason I failed several times as a schoolboy to take up magic. It was bloody difficult using library books and trying to swap right for left. That was the reason I didn't get into magic properly until I was 35.

Did you know that the word sinister comes from the Latin sinestre - meaning left.

I think this tells us all we need to know about lefties!

Ah, the lengths us lefties have to go to Tenko!! Actually I was lucky enough to have kind relatives in Canada who sent me a cap firing Winchester 73 rifle which instantly made me first pick when playing cowboys 'n' injun's.

As for magic... I got really excited when I ordered Paul Zenon's 'Street Magic' book knowing that he was left handed and was gloating over the fact that now I would be able to copy all the moves and photos without having to rewire my brain as usual (and all the righties would have to suffer this time...mwaahaha (em.. is that how one spells an evil laugh?)). Anyway, imagine my disgust when the first paragraph stated that Paul was going to show all the tricks being performed right handed for the benefit of his readers...... aaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!
