what do you do on here when there's no one else around? not *that* you dirty beast...
In my timezone, there are usually very few people around in the afternoon (roughly speaking, between midday and six pm). But so long as there have
been people around since the last time I was online, there is always something new to read. In fact, it's more efficient to
wait until the quiet time of day before catching up with whatever's been written overnight.
During a session, I usually catch up with each forum one at a time, either starting from the bottom (dove's head) and working up, or starting from the top and working down. I only log in when I want to reply, and when I do that I am Hidden. Forums I read avidly include the dove's head, hall of fame, file sharing, support & tips and miscellaneous. I also read whatever catches my eye in reviews, the occasional thread in introductions, anything new in forum requests when I notice it, etc. I hardly ever read events at all, because it's next to useless for people outside of Britain. Not telling how avidly I read the sinbin.
Talkmagic is rather unusual in one respect, in that it's mostly on-topic, which is contrary to the spirit of the Internet. Most forums I know are more like, well, imagine if the dove's head was ten times bigger than any other forum. I know one board where there are
two off-topic forums, one for off-topic threads that might be of lasting interest, and another (called "ephemera") for off-topic threads of short-term interest only. The difference is that a thread in Ephemera is automatically deleted if there are no replies within a fortnight. (When you get right down to it I actually prefer Usenet over boards, because the subject of a thread can change more dynamically. But Usenet would be intolerable for talkmagic, because there are no possibilities for moderation other than all-or-nothing.)
