Any other magicians play this? I just started because my mate and his girlfriend play, and I'm RUBBISH!

Just started with an Eldar army... pretty cool (once the gluing is over)

Another expensive hobby...

Sigh! hehehe

I used to and yes it is a very expensive hobby if you really get into the collecting part more than the playing part. The initial cost of models, paints, brushes and modelling tools can easily be £200+ but then if you're just going to play and slowly add things it's quite cheap.

If you decide to collect multiple armies you'll probably end up near £1000 with 3-4 different large armies at 2500 points or more each.

Hope you're enjoy it though, it certainly is good fun with friends.

I used to play classic back in the day. A few weeks ago a friend and I walked into a Games Workshop and the shop man ask what had brought us in, we replied "nostalgia"

I also used to play. The rules were c*** (not the best) though so we had to make our own house rules. The stuff has all been in storage for ages now though.

Yeah, is definately complicated! I think the 40k thing is easier though... slowly getting the hang of it.

It's the painting that I can't do! Grrrrr

My brother use to play 40k and he gave me some bits and bobs I had the orginal Leman Russ figure and even some noise marines. I once sat down and finished painting one but never really got in to the paiting of them. I tried the game once and got bored.

Actually My step dads best mate knew the perry twins.

Never played Warhammer 40k, but I used to play just about every other roleplaying game when I was in my teens [takes a deep breath]: AD&D, Star Wars, Vampire: The Masquerade, Stormbringer, MERP, Dragon Warriors, TMNT and my favourite... Call of Cthulhu. (I'm sure there are more but that's all I can recall right now).

Ah, the memories....

EDIT: Also Judge Dredd and Batman. I think that's it now. :D

Is this like Dungeons and Dragons? I've never heard of it before.

Yeah, it's a similar concept. The main difference being that D&D takes place in your mind, whereas 40K has a physical presence in the form of lead/plastic figures complete with scenery, vehicles and all manner of cool models. I think that's about right; someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure.

This kind of thing was pretty much my life when I was in my teens, but I guess I grew out of it once I hit my twenties. It now holds no interest at all. Funny how things work out.

When I was 13-14, I spent many many hours trying to construct the "perfect" board, or battlefield. How much I spent on that grass paper stuff probably stretched into the millions, and the fake trees were about £4000 a pop. I still have it, and after just having a quick look, I'm rather impressed with my river through the middle filled with pebbles and varnish!

Played a couple of games now, Eldar army against Space Marines and Tyranids (Alien things) and drew against both, only thing that totally tore me to bits was Necrons... damn them for looking so cool as well!

Funny most people used to play when they were younger and then grew out of it - I'm the complete opposite, never got into it when I was younger!

My son got me into it about 5 years ago when i broke my ankle. Weeks of sitting on my A got me into the painting of them and making scenery and terrain, as for playing I'm rubbish he then got me started on Lord of The Rings, i must have spent an absolute fortune on figures and paints.

He's now into the online version and has me signed up at on of the Micro Game Play place which have 62 computers with the latest online games on, its the easiest way to loose 5 hrs
