Yesterday, I almost posted on this thread, because I felt Tom was a bit hacked off at what he saw as some posts putting him (and his performing partner) down.

I saw something different, which was that people were genuinely worried that there might be a bit of youthful over-enthusiasm obscuring some of the practicalities of performing at weddings. However, even though I think the meaning was pretty clear, I could still see how it might get misinterpreted.

Wish I'd done it, now.

I'd really like to see some video of your abilities, boys.

Until then I don't think anyone should put them down, because sure they're young, but they might be absolutely brilliant. They might also be average, but at least they're out there.

I'm also an utterly pedantic b*tch, so can I insist you remove the errant apostrophe on your website - it's "weddings", not "wedding's" - it makes you look unprofessional.

Should you have done that in the first place, the discussion may have not taken the turn it did. Comments and criticism are how you learn, and most people offering advice did so freely and for your own sake.

And no matter how good or bad you are, you should have at least been grateful for that.

Everyone wishes you the best of luck I'm sure, but the main concern is from people who've been in your position many times before, and have seen pitfalls. The world ain't a nice place... and I think people were just trying to offer you a little protection. Which at your tender ages—although you may not realise it—is worth it's weight in gold.

Hi guys,
Can you put a lot of us out of our misery, and let us know if you booked a stand at the wedding exhibition please?

Cheers

I just want to say, the post I made was in no way intended to put anyones skills in doubt or put them down because of their age. When I was even younger than Tom, I was working professionally, and it was genuinely hard work to get the respect from my peers (speeling?!) that I wanted.

I made my post, because I have been through the same sort of motions as Tom, OK, I admit, I was lucky enough to fall into a professional world of TV etc at a young age, but I have been through it.

Its more to protect Tom, and make sure clients dont take the p**s out of him.

Mark

Good on you Tom!

I hope it all works well for you and your partner :D
And fingers crossed for you that you get more work thru the weddings you're already booked for!

I am terribly impressed that you booked a stand. May one enquire as to the cost of the stand and how many days the exhibition was running?

It seems to me that while everyone is criticising and tut-tutting you are showing a go-getter attitude which is highly commendable. Make the most of it while you are young. My "get up and go" got up and left some time ago.

It was a one night exhibition and surprisingly was free but we are having to pay £50 for a bigger one next month.
Cheers

The funny thing is that you will probably do better at the free one than the 50 quid one. Just a psychic vibe. You should do it though and I wish you luck.

You guys will do well... you should have plenty of leaflets and stuff to chuck out at such exhibitions, because bear in mind that people at such events may not be planning their big day for months... and they will remember you if you do something memorable.

Perhaps some 'giveaway' playing cards with your contact details on, or something 'sticky' which they won't throw away.

My missus went to loads of fayres pre-wedding, and had carrier bags full of stuff, which she re-visited months later.
