Optical Illusion

Not really magic, but fascinating anyway.

Look at the picture of the chessboard in the link. Square A is the exact same shade as Square B. Even knowing this, when you look at the picture you will find it very hard for the brain to accept this fact.

But if you copy it into an image editing package and copy the centre of the A square and drag it over the B square (or vice versa) you will see that it is true.

Utterly fascinating.

Both truly awesome.

Being a fan of Escher and Salvador Dali, I have optical illusions plastered all over my walls. People are fascinated by such things, although I admit that sadly, I have lost appreciation over the years.

I must re-visit some of my old books. Because, bear in mind that modern optical illusions are complex, geometric, computer-drawn masterpieces on the whole.

M C Escher and Dali used paintbrushes and pencils... and dreamed these things up in their heads!

Now THAT'S magic!

I soooo agree, that man must have been able to twist his eyes in his head.

I also have the prints, great pieces of art and inovation arent they.
Hipnotic and yet still nice to have on the wall :)

For people with more eyes than they know what to do with :

I've just seen another amazing optical illusion. It never ceases to amaze me what the brain get's up to.

I am sure that there is scope to use optical illusions in a mentalism act as a way of highlighting that there are things about the brain we just don't know.

I like the pink circles one, though after looking at all the illusions posted, my eyes are hurting!

The difference between what we are shown, and what the brain percieves can sometimes be amazing.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
