Hoping to chat with other Illusion Builders

Postby veegates » May 12th, '08, 19:05

Hi,
I am hoping there might be a forum that has been started for illusion builders. I specialize in mechanical effects. It would be wonderful to find others who also build illusions. You know, maybe to bounce ideas around.
Thanks to all that welcomed me to the group!!

Where in New England are you located?

I'm in Western Massachusetts and have a bit of a background when it comes to grand illusion development.

Hi,
Great to hear from you. I live down the road in Providence.
What kind of effects do you work on? Lately, I have been working to reproduce several of Robert-Houdin's pieces. I recently completed construction of his acrobat named Antonio Diavolo. He is posted on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44UBXBlGmik
He was a fun build. I have also finished The Orange Tree. The piece that I am wanting to build is The Dancing Harlequin. I know the effects are dated and not nearly as flashy as the new effects, but there is a certain charm about them. I am thinking about building a few more of his pieces and putting together a small show.
Hope to hear back and please let me hear about your work.

I have to say that Dante The Daring is breathtakingly super fantasticly amazing. I'm so jealous, it something i always wanted to build.

Keep up the great work, we need builders like yourself keeping the Classic Pieces alive.

As for being dated, thats bull. as the video proves. KEEP THEM COMING!!!

Thank You

Darren @ The Magic Attic

P.S The 3 automated effects i've always wanted are

1) The Orange Tree
2) The Chess Player
3) Antonio Diavolo

Hi Darren
Thank you for the kind words. Good to hear that Houdins effects have held up for the last 160-170 years.
The Orange tree is a great effect. The movie Illusionist helped bring it to light.
I thought about the Chess Player, but I think if I were going to build a similar piece it would Psycho or The Whist (whatever Whist is) Player.
Thanks again!
