A killer finish

Postby Johnny Wizz » May 13th, '08, 12:08

I am at long last putting the finishing touches to my Children’s Magic Show and intend to start marketing myself in the next week or so.

It has been an interesting exercise getting to grips with how to approach the different age groups and I have found David Kayes “Seriously Silly” book very helpful in this area (although I would argue that his idea of what is acceptable as a funny is probably better suited to downtown New York than it is to middle England).

I am satisfied with my routine, I have put together some alternatives so that I am not doing the same show every time but what I think I am lacking is a “killer finish” trick. At the moment I am planning to end with a three phase Magic Colouring book effect because I like the idea of making the last trick spread out a bit. But I don’t see it as the hook that the kids (and parents) will go home talking about. I think that this is important because word of mouth can be such a cheap and effective advertising tool.

So, does anyone have any ideas to offer for a good closer? I am willing to buy in or make myself. I have considered an animal production but have been warned off by the many posts in here warning about the difficulty and perceived acceptability of working with animals. I am also being warned to keep away from liquids which might spill and damage furnishings and of course flash and fire items with their obvious risks.

All ideas will be gratefully received and considered.

Thanks

John

Hi there,

Could you:
Do phase one of the blank colouring book and show all blank.
Perform a disappearing pencil type effect which will then draw onto the pages.
Do Phase 2 of the book.
Explain the need for colour and do the disappearing crayons which will turn into silks?
Explain that silks are easier to put onto pages 'cos they are already flat and then proceed to vanish the colours.
Do Phase 3 of the book to show the book is now complete.
The only problem with having a coloured book it that you haven't got anything to colour anymore but magically coloured pictures are great because if you put them into a magic box you can make a picture come to life - followed by a book to Sponge/stuffed animal (real if brave enough) finale.

Just an idle lunchtime thought!

Thanks

Andy

i posted a change bag routine thats equaly good as an opener or a closer.

also consider:-
candy factory, cup of salt to sweets, skittles work best.
"the end silk" production.
spot the dog, silks and change bag, b/w dog silk gets colourised then bag turns into dog puppet, everyone takes a bow.
snakey draw box, starts out as 20 cent silks but finishes with silk in snakeys mouth tied between the two silks, shocking but fun.
not shure which site sells this as a kit.

I think a snowstorm could conclude the show... and forgive me for my biased opinion but i am a fan of parasol productions so I think that too would be a nice add :)
