Some people should just stop after the first shandy because they obviously cannot handle their drink. What a bunch of idiots.

Why does this happen at football matches? I've been to plenty of rugby games and the fans mix with no problems. There might be a little bit of banter but win or loose there's nver any trouble.

The way I see it, it's not just some football fans that act like thugs. The players are probably the most unprofessional and unsportsmanlike in any sport I can think of. Image

You'll always get those who dont go for the football, just the trouble. But I do believe it wouldnt have been that bad if they hadnt have been so drunk. I think there would have been trouble anyway, just not as bad as it was.

I don't think you can just blame the alcohol, of course it doesn't help but it's more the mentality of the fans.

I remember being totally terrified the first time Dave took me into a pub full of drunk rugby fans after we'd seen a Six Nations game between England and Wales. The place was packed with both English and Welsh and there was no trouble at all. Some funny banter involving inflatable sheep but it was all in good spirits.

Then I've been in the pub down the road on FA Cup day and the atmosphere between two groups of fans has been horrible. I think it's a culture problem in the sport more than anything else.

I've never understood the mentality that says "My team lost. I must destroy things." and then gets all upset when riot police insist they don't!

Mind you, it's two days on and ITN news is leading it's lunchtime bulletin with a "here's what to fear today" piece on the violence from Wednesday night.

There was certainly nmore than 50 in the crowd that were chasing, punching and kicking the police officer. If it hadn;t been for the lack of police officers on the ground then I think that there would have been far more arrests.

It is always a minority that appear to be looking for trouble. Having been to a number of England matches abroad where people knew well before kick off that there was going to be organised trouble after the match, including where it was going to be, it was very easy to avoid those areas if you wanted to and most did.

Ask the poor policeman who was being jumped on if needs a bit of perspective!
From the accounts I have read, it seems that it was a large minority (in the thoushands). I think of lot of 'neutrals' will now be hoping Celtic win the SPL.
I love football, and used to go a lot, but stopped because I got fed up having to pay a ridiculous amount of money to see garbage whilst sitting (instead of the good old days when you could stand) next to a D**K H**D.

Guys

I've just got in from three days in london and glad I wasn't here (manchester) on Wednesday given my office is in Piccadilly gardens

I can't speak for the events of the evening the behaviour of at least 5 fans of Rangers (scarfs and accents gave it away) appaled me just after I was dropped off to get the train at 7.30 in the morning.

four of the fans decided to drop their pants and wipe their arses all over the bonnet and windows of the car that the missus was driving while another female who was with them attempted to open the car door then try to break the window to get at her bag.

That was at 07.30 in the morning ,not the best behavior but I do accept it is a tiny minority. That said it was better when the Romans where here and they had merely a few thousand fans

Postby spudgun » May 17th, '08, 04:15

folks im as ashamed as many many rangers fans about the carry on in manchester but i was there in the thick of it and i can swear hand on heart the vast majority of fans were well behaved....the true fact of the matter is that manchester city council should have been more on the ball and organised. I even spoke to a policeman before i got on the bus and he said to me that the problem was they never ever imagined so many would turn up. As for the car incident they are just a***holes and i cant imagine why anyone would do that. However the cop that was attacked came out today and said that he didnt know what all the fuss was about and that it was mostly well behaved and that it was a rangers fan who got him back to his mates....as for celtic winning the spl.........................hahahhahahahaahah u wish mate

no but seriously its a slow news\week and its obviously an easy target

celtic

winning the

spl

lol
