Peek Peek Peek-A-Boo

Postby Lenoir » May 13th, '08, 16:37

Hey Guys,
After numerous message exchanges with Mandrake, I have worked out my Magic Square routine but am one move short!

I am looking for a relatively cheap, as in cheaper than Stealth Assassin and the likes, way of peeking a number, or generally finding out a spectators number!

I originally thought of a cheesy variation on the "37" ploy, but thats not 100%, and since the links of Blaine and the masked street magician, that is quite a well known "effect."

If anyone has any ideas or recomendations, I would greatly appreciate it, a price along with a name would be extra lovely, and Mandrake also suggested that anything that you know, could be considered as a reveal or whatever, just PM me!

Thanks in advance me heartiesss!

EDIT: Just to clarify, the number has to be between 30 and 100..so certain techniques are out of the question! Thanks anyway John! :D

the outlaw wallets are rather nice, and for some reason unrepeatable here should last longer than the thought transmitter.
The one I have is a nice business card holder size

price about the same if memory serves.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh

Look's pretty swish!

I'll just give a quick overview of my routine so you guys get the picture!

Flipboard/Large white something at the front, about 20-30 spectators, 4x4 square drawn out nothing filled in.
Hand out [insert peekable item here] for a spectator to write down a number between 30 and 100. Passes it to me, to pass to someone else...or gets to me somehow :D and i proceed to fill in numbers and "guesses" by talking to the person and therefore "reading" them.

Typical ending...none of the numbers are theirs...oh whoop tee do they all add up nicely!

A wallet style would be great, an impression pad also but not perfect as spectators like to have a flick through on occasion! Especially if the spectator is familiar with mentalism! The centre tear is also out of the question as I would like to keep the number somewhere, incase we get the awkward "changer!"

Thanks guyss!

The newish Mental Board (haven't tried it, but it's pretty cheap).

Dr Todd's Pass and Peek: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic24725.php

One of Outlaw's wallets.

One of the many other peek wallets.

Or, to be really controversial, how about a billet switch, which will cost you nothing at all? Having said that, I recommend that you buy Elliott Bresler's 'Switchcraft' manuscript - just because: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic15147-0.php.

There are a set of really good impression note pads... can't remember what they're called now, but the specs can hold and write as to all intents and purposes it is a cheap note pad, they can then tear the next two pages out to make sure you're not looking at the impressions on the page below ( ).

It is only suitable for numbers, pictures and shapes or simple words though because the peek is of the mirror image of whatever is written.

That's the one - "Son of Mindscan", available from Outlaw effects.

for cheap.. try mental board ( i think ) from worldmagicshop. No more than a tenner i think, and it does the job nicely.

Thanks a lot guys, I was thinking along the lines of some kind of impressions pad and the Mental Board looks perfect. Nothing suspicious about a clipboard when theres not really any flat surface near by! A Billet switch is certainly a possibility, and I might give that a lesser effect and see how it goes down. If well, I will progressively use it for more important routines and effects!

Thanks a lot guys you've been a lot of help! I've gone from thinking the Stealth Assassin Wallet was my only choice and I'd have to fork out lots for one or two tricks, to have several all perfectly plausible solutions!

If you are looking for something a bit different then you could try and get hold of a Tele Thought wallet - a nice peek which the spec can hold - if you're feeling brave! Or you could get them to drop it into an opaque bag "for safe keeping!"
It is £40 - but Sooooooooooooo many possibilities!

Wild Card - I would say the only thing suspicious about the Mental Board is - if you have a notepad of paper, how often would you really tear a sheet out and attach it to a clip board, rather than just hand out the pad?

To be honest, I've never really seen the need for fancy pants impression pads and the like. A note pad and a piece of carbon paper always works well for me and I've never had anyone look through it. Perhaps that comes down to audience handling, I like hand them an envelope as soon as they've finished writing and ask them to pop their page in there. Takes their mind off the pad straight away.

If you can find some excuse to make notes in your pad at a later time, you've got the perfect chance to take as long as you like to read what ever's been written.

I know it's simple but it works well for me.

Thanks Lady of Mystery! I know what you mean, there has been discussion in other threads about people checking and the likes, but in this formal style audience, they are very unlikely too!

Completely ridiculous question going out here, but...Where can I buy Carbon Paper?!?

I'm pretty new to this style mentalism and as the Youtube nerds would say, I'm a bit of a n00b!
