A bit of help needed if possible guys!

I call upon those more worthy than me!

Righteyho.

If possible, I need to find an effect that can be performed on stage, without any patter (so can be done to music), along the lines of linking rings and fibre optics

Any ideas?

Cheers guys!

Love

Chris

hm... linking rings? fibre optics?

ok, seriously, if not those, then what are you after? what's wrong with those that makes them not suitable?
zombie ball perhaps? card manipulation?

I know that this probably isn't what you're looking for beardy, but a miser's dream works well to music, perhaps with a big coin finish? Or just some card manipulation, like producing and vanishing card fans?

Colour changing CD's, or to be even more current, DVD's like anyone will know the difference. Go one further, multiplying colour changing DVD's and finish with an ipod.

It;s just the fact that I wouldn't mind something not very techincal, so the performace as a whole can be focused on. I may just go with the big linking rings eventually, but I'm just seeing ideas ;)

It needs to be something that an assistant (my personal one, not an audience member) could potentially be included into - rings can be thrown e.t.c

Lomster's done a lot of silent stuff, so she's possibly the person to talk to.

How about D-Lites.

Just remember what pocket you put them in!

Depends how much time you have to practice but I'd consider the dancing cane. It's a classic and is nearly always performed to music.

Do you have a particular amount of time you need to fill?

Can you involve spectators, or must it be entirely to music? (I was thinking of the thumb tie here.)

Do you want something funny, or are you playing it fairly straight? (I'm waiting for Greedo to make a comment about Beard!) I'm a big fan of the Pom-Pom Prayer Stick, which is mystifying, highly visible, and a bit silly.

How about the Snowstorm in China effect? You could do the versions with hearts or butterflies for a bit of a change from the usual.

EDIT: You could even do a whole Chinese-themed act - Chinese Sticks, Rice Bowls, then Snowstorm.

I like the colour changing records/CDs effect. Have appropriate music come on for the right colour (although a young audience might not recognise such classics as 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon'...).

okey dokey some for you to consider.

my change bag routine on here.
sliding die box.
missmade parrasol.
parrasole production, dvd in review section.
dlight routine then chuck in empty change bag and produce several of thoughs mood light balls that light up.
any production from mirror box.
jumbo coin multiplication, can start with any coin routine.
run rabbit run to music, very funny.
cut n restored rope, pull off several knots and put in change bag and then produce big knot or use several colored ropes and produce "minkeys fist knot".

not thought much about this realy honest.

Oh there's so much that you can do to music but it all depends on what type of music you're thinking of working with and what type of routine you're thinking of.

I'm working on a silks to salsa routine at the moment that's going really well.

I've also got a sponge balls to swan lake, I know it sounds odd but it works really well and rope work to music can work well too as long as everything's visual and easy to follow.

Basically anything you do to music has to be, big, visual and very easy to follow. You've got to remember that you're not going to have any patter to explain to the audience what's going on, it's all going to have to be very self explainitary. Keep everything bright and simple, the problem with so many silent acts is that they try to be too clever and just end up confusing their audience.

How big an audience are you performing to, and do you have the capability of additional projection for the audience (i.e. using screens)? I only ask because I saw a really cool cups & balls routine done to music with no patter, but obviously the size of the cups and balls is a problem(no innuendo intended  ) if you're performing to a lot of people and don't have extra projection assistance. Just a thought. If I find the video, i'll PM you the link.
