Lime Juice To Lime Trick?

Postby TheMaskedMagician » May 24th, '08, 21:43

Hey, few years ago when I was a kid, I was shopping with my parents on a day out. I got a few basic magic tricks and we went out for tea.

I started practicing the stripper deck while waiting for our meal a waiter saw me practicing, came over and did a "Lime Juice To Lime" type trick. He had some glasses, poured our drinks and then proceeded to use opaque cups to turn a glass of lime juice, into a lime. We had examined the glasses and found no gimmicks.

Could anyone tell me what the official name for this trick is and where I might get it from?

Cheers,
Mark

i would of thought its just sleight of hand - have you stopped and thought about how you could apply certain techniques to everyday objects rather than just wanting to buy it off the shelf?

i can think of how to do it, and i no very little sleight of hand, and I'm sure with a little patience and thought - you could apply the thinking of an old standard of magic to what you wish to achieve...

it used to be said a magician isnt a magician until he/she has mastered it..

hehe abraxus I'm kinda like that in my approach to magic.

Some folk prefer plain old regular non-tricked up packs of cards etc.

About 90% of my magic tricks are gimmick this gimmick that, my style is using gimmicks I suppose :D

I've always been intrigued by gimmicks. What happens when the spec wants to examine the cards, or the thing, or whatever? The most gimmicked thing I've been known to use is an ID, but even that stays very firmly in my pocket for extreme emergencies.

My thoughts are that gimmicks are all well and good when working from a stage (or for kids magic which is similar to working from a stage), but for up close intimate performances I really don't see the sense of it.

Plus the performer who uses many gimmicks must positively rattle as he/she wanders the room. And I'd hate the constant fumbling into pockets to pull out whatever gimmick was needed next.

Plus of course gimmicks can let you down at the most inappropriate time.

Perhaps it's just me?

A good education in magic will render this effect obvious to do and open up many other good effects for you and it will save yourself a lot of money too! Still, each to their own! Possibly read Mark Wilsons Complete Course in Magic for a good start to this education!
